Umass bringing in 4 star big Tre Mitchell. Beat ga tech, va tech, Indiana.

This is presumably what changes programs and what many in Mason Nation have been expecting to get to the next level. Matt McCall is doing it alot faster it seems. And I dont know if he even has a full staff.

We should get comfy in the cellar. Everyone is lapping us.

I think you mean we should get comfy in the middle of the pack, 5th-8th range. Good for McCall, he’s got a long way to go though. One Freshmen 4 Star isn’t going to save his job. Will probably be fired after next season.

True. But article says TJ Weeks is pretty
good player as well. You never know how freshman will translate to college game. We might even find out later McCall cheated. Who knows. I just want to see us beat some real programs for recruits.

That is a great get by McCall. I’m sure Diet Mountain Dew boy will land a real recruit soon...

Weeks father went to UMASS and wanted to follow his father. Mitchell and him are friends/teammates. So it was a package deal almost. Mitchell also has the opportunity to start day one. Looking at the roster Weeks has a decent chance to start as well. We should wait about 25 years for Otis Livingston III to come to Mason with a friend lol.

Lol judging from Otis Livingston Sr to GOATis Livingston II height wise I'm assuming Otis Livingston III will be about Peter Dinkledge's size.

At this point, going into his 5th season at Mason we've got the data points to start to call it like it is. Paulsen is not a good recruiter. He probably will never be a good recruiter at Mason. There is literally nothing to suggest otherwise. When we sucked, we could pitch minutes and the opportunity to turn a program around. Now we are a middle of the road A10 team without alot of minutes to go around for the next couple years. Paulsen is not going to win any recruiting battles with other mid-majors or P5 schools. All we can hope is that we continue going after under recruited guys with some glaring flaws and developing them around their strengths(Otis- undersized, Kier- slowest jumper in all of college basketball, Reuter- bad at basketball, etc.)

I'm a believer that a new assistant could probably go a long way in helping with the recruiting as that is really supposed to be their bread and butter during the season but I don't think we'll see it.

You know what I haven’t seen in the tournament at all? The top of the key hand off offense. I hated it all year, doesn’t seem to be a well flowing offense and we’d find ourselves getting stuck. I’m hoping our coaching staff is working on a new offensive scheme for next year

Jared Reuter should be a caution for all you star watchers about recruiting out there: 4 star, recruited to UVA by Bennett (whom, I'm assuming, we'd all call a good recruiter?). Was he a programming saving transfer? (we all thought he would be), but no. Who was our best player last season? Jordan Miller, who was supposed to red-shirt and no one thought would contribute. Jamal Hartwell also showed he could ball and had almost no offers (despite being rated a 3-star). Is Hartwell short? Yes, but so is Tavian Dunn-Martin who won 6th man of the year, and so was Luwane Pipkins, who is transferring to Providence out of UMass, and so was Joey Rodriguez who lead vcu to the final four in 2011, and so was Tony Skinn, who helped lead George Mason to the Final Four in 2006.

We were just talking about a Paulsen recruit being a grad transfer to potentially Kentucky, while our last 4 star recruit essentially quit school.

I think we've all got to calm it down with the angst.

By the way, both Mar and Calixte had P5 (in the case of Calixte, it was Big East) offers and came here anyway.

AJ had a Penn St offer and is the second highest rated recruit of Paulsen's tenure...

Well said as always but don’t you know that Paulsen will always suck he will never get mason to the top and like mid pack and not know how to coach and only drink mountain dew and stuff.

AJ had a Penn St offer and is the second highest rated recruit of Paulsen's tenure...

And AJ is extremely talented but plays out of control and can’t seem to comprehend how to stay where he needs to on either side of the ball. But we can blame Paulsen for all of that.

Also set plays/inbounds plays that are effective.

Once again all you folks are crazy. Paulsen himself said our players don't compare to the top of the league. He said it out of his own mouth. Step it up DP.

That was half of what he said. He was also very high on his freshmen and sophomores, specifically Mar and Miller, but also Boyd (who was playing really well before the injury — I know he’s a junior, but he called out Boyd as the type of player he wants).

It looks like we got two guards with college ready bodies in this latest round, and they might be contributing from day one.

Sometimes P5 programs recruit players to be depth players or projects. They also have the staff to develop them. Mason does not have that luxury.

I agree w/your larger point that stars on a recruiting site aren't the end-all guarantees but Reuter was 3-stars on Rivals, 3 stars on Scout, 3 Stars on 247, and 3 Stars on the 247 composite (which averages the big recruiting sites).
