Former Mason Coach Rick Barnes has tested positive and Tennessee basketball has halted activities.

They were supposed to take on #1 Gonzaga in a matchup to Top 15 programs on Dec. 2nd. We'll see if that still happens.

PCR testing upon arrival (and daily testing) is how these MTEs are trying to safeguard + pull off games. For example, eight teams arrived here at Mohegan Sun today/tonight and tested immediately. Await results tomorrow AM before being allowed to leave hotel rooms and practice.

The CDC is finalizing guidelines to lessen 14-day quarantines after positive COVID-19 tests. This is the X-Factor to the 20-21 college basketball season.

Been told it’s a positive with one of the referees that has resulted in Stony Brook-Bryant game to be canceled.

Yup a lot of lawyers are also college basketball refs as well as many other professions

B) As an infection control officer in a healthcare setting, there's no reason an asymptomatic person with mask could not ref a basketball game.

The "abundance of caution" that's constantly used is way out of hand.

Guessing most players and coaches would not want to play with a covid positive ref, mask or not.

Right..if they aren't wearing masks...asymptomatics CAN be a cause of spread.

However, when I am around known COVID patients, I am not considered exposed or at risk when I am wearing a mask per the CDC. I don't even have to gown up or wear a N95 anymore to enter a room with a COVID patient as long as I am not performing a procedure.
So it either is or isn't..not both.

I'm guessing the higher your level of D-1 ball, the lesser the likelihood you ref and have other gigs.

My dad was a college referee for softball and basketball (D1-D3 softball), D3 and high school basketball. made good money but definitely had a full time career. He was even the assignor for high school and college softball in our area and that wasn't fully paying the bills. Most of these guys have other jobs. 30x2.5k isn't exactly payingg for their kids colleges

If Stony Brook and Bryant wanted to move forward with the game and only use the 2 refs who havent tested positive, could they? Or are there NCAA rules against playing with only 2 refs?
