My dad was a college referee for softball and basketball (D1-D3 softball), D3 and high school basketball. made good money but definitely had a full time career. He was even the assignor for high school and college softball in our area and that wasn't fully paying the bills. Most of these guys have other jobs. 30x2.5k isn't exactly payingg for their kids colleges

Yeah, I ump high school baseball and softball and know some guys that do college ball. Mostly junior college, D-3 and lower level D-1. They all have other jobs, and with all the travel they do during the season it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Over 86% of Division 1 college basketball programs are still up and running despite a once-in-a-century global pandemic.

Have a great Monday!

Gonzaga had a positive before the Auburn game and held player out of that game.

Baylor's coach tested positive and missed first two games of the season.

How are these games allowed and others get cancelled?

Might as well cancel our season.

Might as well cancel our season.

Could be one of two things:

1) the number of close contacts the positive case came in contact with or

2) some schools are following protocols and some aren’t.

So Richmond paused for five days and Mason canceled everything through the 16th?
Or the fact this is the third positive for Gonzaga and their first time pausing their program. None of this seems to make any sense. The minimum is 10 days best case and Richmond is good in 5 maybe 6?!

Who knows...chaos, like I've been saying.

Looks like JMU was also in quarantine and is looking to resume practice on Dec. 14th, which is why that game was cancelled. Not really sure why we had to give up the ODU game as well, unless the schools didn't think it was worth it traveling to Richmond for one game.

I mean this COVID pausing program scenario is just as odd as the fact that some teams have more than the limit on scholarship players each year... maybe mason is just playing too much by the rules. Heck Richmond paused what 1 or 2 days before us and they play tonight?!?

still never going to get me think that your tournament idea is even close to a decent idea but you are right here :) JMU also about to be back up and running and they paused slightly before us too

Games getting shut down left and right, teams on pause, come back and go back on pause.

Would be awesome to have someone in a leadership position at the NCAA. Maybe even, say, an NCAA commissioner.

I can’t remember the last time I saw Emmert.

Sources: The basketball oversight committee expected to recommend that the NCAA allow ALL transfers to get waiver to play this season. This would be proposed to the D-1 Council — which next meets on Dec. 16. There is a chance it could be voted on prior to the 16th.

There are 33 teams currently shut down due to COVID testing in program (with return date): * This list does not include the teams such as Vermont (12-19) and Alabama State (1-2), in addition to the Ivy League, Bethune Cookman and UMES - who aren’t playing this season.

Good nugget here from Wayne -- 175 available seats for the general public at vcu home games this season. Minimum $24,000 donation is the threshold to secure one of them. Speaks to the deep base helping to fund that program. #A10MBB

Emmert said he expects the NCAA will make a decision on the city that will host March Madness this year. They are working closely with Indianapolis as the likely host, but not a done deal yet.

DePaul has yet to play a game this season. They paused on Nov. 19, were expected to come back against Iowa State on Dec. 6, canceled that game just before tipoff, and are now paused again. Dec. 18 against Xavier could be their first game of the season.

DePaul will pause all team activities following positive COVID-19 test results among its Tier 1 group prior to the Iowa State game. DePaul’s next two games at Seton Hall this Friday and at Villanova on Monday, Dec. 14 will be postponed, school announced.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...e-krzyzewski-questions-playing-games-pandemic:

"Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday called on college basketball to consider whether it's best to continue playing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

'I would just like for the safety, the mental and physical health of players and staff to assess where we're at,' Krzyzewski said."

"Krzyzewski recognized that his comments could be taken the wrong way because they were made shortly after a 15-point loss to Illinois, which dropped No. 10 Duke to 2-2 on the season.

'We got our butts beat,' he said. 'For the good of the game and the mental and physical health of players and staff, we need to constantly look at this thing. I think that's a smart thing to do.'

Duke has had two games postponed so far this season, but as Krzyzewski acknowledged, what happens in December isn't as important to some as fielding a tournament in March.

'I know the NCAA is worried about the endgame,' he said. 'They're not as worried about the game we're playing right now.'"
