Thanks!

Well hell... he should have just used one sentence then.

Putting it into one sentence wasn't possible. I'm sorry The Great PATSby if you didn't want to read seven paragraphs or got bored to death by my post. One thing you need to know about me is that I am detail oriented in everything I do including making posts. That is why I am an accounting major at Mason planning for a CPA in the future.

Boring long post=made by boring future accountant. Hopefully you will read it, if not just move on. You gave a pretty harsh criticism without even giving my post a chance. :dead:

I think I paraphrased it quite nicely actually (and I'm pretty sure Patsby read your post and was just joking).

You did miss a few key questions, however:

1) Can Hewitt design a more effective press than the one he has utilized in the last three years to take advantage of our newfound length and athleticism?

2) Will we have a good enough skillset combination to play a half court game if we are forced to?

3) Does Hewitt have a strategy to eliminate the turnover problem that has plagued this team for the last three years?

And

4) Does Hewitt have a strategy to get this team to share and move the ball to find better shots or will we continue to rely on individuals to make shots for themselves?

It was more of a joke than anything so I'm sorry if you were offended by it. I do applaud and praise your enthusiasm and love for Mason Basketball. We need more fans from your generation.

I was just implying in most scenarios, whether its on the boards or in the professional world, being precise and to the point is a lot more effective than a long winded memo.

Kind of hard to tell on online posts like these to tell if someone is actually trying to insult you or just poking a little joke. But I'll take you word for it that Patsby was just joking. No need to dwell on it.

As for your questions. Here is what I think.

1. I think Hewitt will use the same one used in the last three years unfortunately. But with so many 6-7 ish guys he can just throw onto the court, the increase length and height will probably itself will make it more effective. That has to be the reason why we have like 5 6-7 guys on the roster now.

2. Julian Royal will probably be the main scorer if the team is forced to play half court. Maybe Jalen Jenkins and Shevon Thompson will too.

3. The only thing I can think of is perhaps for Hewitt to have the players practice a few set plays they can use but also a few set plays that provides a foundation for them to improvise off of when teams make adjustments. Too often I would see players start going on some kind of mental lapse and start doing one and done plays when teams make adjustments. Everyone would improvise their own plays, and no one seemed to be able to interpret what their own teammate was trying to do.

4. I think that's going to be on the players themselves to figure each other out and how to get each other to perform at their best. My hope is that the trip to Spain will solve it. This is going to sound kind of mean, but if they play against some professional Spanish teams, I actually would like them to get beaten real bad. It would be good for them to lose early when the losses don't even count on the season record so they can recognize problems early and fix them immediately.

So is Edwards still on campus (sorry to go back to the topic of the thread...) or is he back in Florida packing up? I realize his official first day is July 1st, but wasn't sure if he is in town for good or not.

He said today on 106.7 he was in the process of "moving for the next few days" so who knows exactly what that means. He said he wanted to take a lot of time at the beginning "getting to know my staff, student-athletes, coaches, donors" etc.

Grant tried to push him on football...but Grant has zero clue of the budget problems at Mason.

Great career choice, 933127! And you will forever hear the jokes that an accountant is like an actuary but with less personality. But you will have the last laugh...just keep in mind the good advice about brevity and conciseness.

A little too slow for my taste. I would like to have heard about immediate plans instead of waiting to get to learn the athletic department. But nine months sounds about right for some big decisions.

"Not that it’s likely that significant decisions will be made soon. Edwards wants to take the next three to nine months to learn the athletic department in addition to long-range university plans. Then he’ll have a plan and priorities."

Any big decisions need to be based on first-hand knowledge--it's important for him to get a sense of the lay of the land. It's unreasonable to expect any new administrator to come in and make sweeping changes right away.

While he may take a while to formulate a real direction, it appears his mind is already churning.

From the article:

Two items that he’s already thinking about are a baseball stadium and academic support center. “Until you dive in, look at everything and put them on a priority grid, then look at a feasibility study, you don’t know,” Edwards said. “Some of that is wrapped inside the university’s master plan.”

Kind of funny he said nine months specifically since that would be the end of the basketball season. Almost if it is a wink to the fans that a change is coming, just give me the time to make it happen.

Probably just a coincidence, though.

He doesn't need nine months for the baseball stadium. TOC and others and even these boards can update him on what happened. btw, what did happen? Did El Presidente pull the plug?

More likely the funding (lack of) from the state coffers is what did in the baseball stadium.
