Brad Edwards Named New Athletic Director

This was just a "softball" welcome to the school presser. I assume there will be a insiders "Meet the AD" where we can press him a little about the direction of basketball. I imagine it will be a wait and see approach.

the one thing I'm glad to hear is how big of a college basketball fan Brad is. Perhaps we need to ask him to become an active member of our message board community and Listen to our opinions? For instance, change our in-game experience as fans, and change the atmosphere and game times of weeknight games.

Three years of underachieving - last year in woeful fashion. Time is running out for a Disneyesque redemption story.

The glee that some people have for a potential axing is a little disgusting. Root for the man to have a redemption year!
I would love for Hewitt to turn it around. By all accounts he is a good guy. But he has to get it done this year.

When you have that many people from the university in attendance I don't think many media members are going to press Edwards on too many things. It would look weird. Plenty of one on one interviews afterwards I would imagine...that seems to be pretty standard...but when the guy doesn't officially start until July 1st...what exactly should he have been grilled on by the press?

Some of you have very weird expectations.....

How is my hoping for a 2009 type year at the minimum Disney esque? If we make the NIT or NCAA that will cancel out the 13-14 year in my mind. I want us to have a winning year period.

Expecting a team that went 4-12 in conference to improve enough to reach the postseason after having lost their two best scorers is a bit wishful thinking.

Sounds about right. It was definitely more of a meet-and-greet than a press conference. The Post doesn't have one word about it on their site today, so it obviously wasn't news to them. Maybe they would have covered it if there were some Native Americans protesting the Redskins logo on Brad's Super Bowl ring.

Atmosphere at our games is definitely important, but he just needs to focus on building a winning program and improving our attendance. I think I read that Jacksonville only averaged about 1,000 fans a game — some games drew less than 400 people — so it's not like he's coming from a school with a good track record in that regard. Hopefully, he can apply what he learned at South Carolina.

If Hewitt miraculously gets next years team to the NIT or NCAA I have no doubt I'll tear up as if I just watched "The Rookie."

Did we or did we not have turnover issues? What about when vcu dived on the ball when they were up big on us? Young players can win. Kentucky is a prime example. Play the young kids all the way.

Nothing against our recruits but Kentucky's freshmen are NBA caliber, not even close to being on the same playing field. Bad comparison, man.

We all want Hewitt and the team to succeed next season, but to think we'll make the postseason after that disaster last season is definitely wishful thinking.

Oh, and vcu has themselves a good coach, fan support (ours is dwindling), and a solid support system from the AD and donors (something I hope we'll now have moving forward with Mr. Edwards in board).

How awkward would it have been if Hewitt had hired his former Siena & GT assistant (& former Jacksonville coach) Cliff Warren before Edwards was hired?

While I certainly approve of the hiring of Edwards, I haven't been this unenthusiastic about Mason basketball since Ernie Nestor 's and Paul Westhead's final season here.

Who's got time for Mason when Bryce Harpers attire is front page news.

I was thinking the same thing, Pablos.

Then Edwards would've had the unique opportunity to fire Warren twice.
