I'm ok with Edwards wanting to get a lay of the land before pulling the trigger on large scale changes/initiatives. He needs to asses what resources he has and doesn't have before he really can do anything, IMO.

Why does Edwards need some time? Becuase we all know Mason like any prospective employer.....hid the warts and the blemishes...so any smart person needs to get inside and get the REAL story....

Plus, it is easier to completely redo the department if the former guy isn't looking over your shoulder. O'connor needs to move on after three months. I see no advantage of him hanging around until December.

This is no surprise. Any manager and leader worth his salt will perform due diligence on staff and organization before making strategic changes. Otherwise it becomes a fire ready aim chokefest.

I imagine you wont see much of O'Connor anymore. Not like he is going to be hanging out in his old office with his feet up saying "now Brad...that's not the way we do it here at Mason...."

Just listened to Big Balls Brad on 980. Still a lot of focus on his days with the Skins. I just want that declaration that "I am committed to building George Mason basketball to being one of the best programs in the country" type of statements.

Isn't that what he said on 106 The Fan? "I know how important basketball is at Mason...and right now my focus is helping Hewitt and the other coaches we have be the best they can be."

On a side note about Hewitt, earlier in the interview in discussing his inspiration Joe Gibbs: "...sit down and come up with a plan on how to get from point A to point B (and I really want you to get to point B)...and if point B isn't reached bringing them in and saying well this is where we are -- and you've always got to end it on a good note." Sounds like some conversations will be had and definable metrics will be set and the as will fall if those metrics aren't met.

I assume that a key position Edwards will focus on is the Senior Associate AD for External Relations (held by Adam Brick since August 2006), which is responsible for fundraising, marketing, and communication.

Many of those in the AD were handcuffed in what they could achieve in their position by TOCs approach, especially to fundraising. I think it is good that he will be giving the people under him the opportunity to perform under his approach.

I think we all know the key position he needs to focus on. I won't say it since, for some reason, we are not supposed to address that topic.
