I’m sure people will tell you there’s a million reasons Mason can’t do this, but it would be the best promotion we could put on. Have to find a way to get out of our own way for things like this.
I remember going to our game at Richmond during the DP era. They had a beer stand with beers sitting on ice. That alone made me feel ok buying over priced beers. Just that little effort adds to a sports venue atmosphere.

It’s been a minute since I bought a beer at EBA, but when I did they poured a can into a plastic cup, didn’t tilt it to limit the foam and put the half full beer can (because they made so much foam with the bad pour) on the counter, presumably for the next guy who bought the same type of beer? I was so perplexed I couldn’t even form the words to complain and just let it go. Just give the people the damn cans they are paying for, it’s how literally every other arena in the country does it!

Has Mason ever done a alcohol promotion for a game? Duquesne is doing a $1 beer game for their conf home opener 12/31. Their record stinks right now and they are putting in an effort to get ppl to that game.

I just want to see some effort Mason, please .

Sodexo won’t allow it. They have asked, I’ve asked. Sodexo refuses.

$1.00 beer is just asking for trouble. imho.
Strong disagree here haha.

But regardless, it costs like $14 for a beer. That rivals Yankee Stadium pricing, and at least there they’re giving you 20oz beers.

It has to be near impossible to attract casual/new fans, and convert them to repeat customers, with how expensive it is to attend our games. I can’t imagine a family or group of friends can get out of EBA spending less than $300-400 if they want good seats and food/drinks. Likely not worth it for the product/experience they’re getting.

I’ve started a few businesses and been reasonably successful at them. I’ve got to say Mason, regardless of who’s in charge, seems to have little interest in promoting its premier sport. It’s reasonable to conclude they have 0 interest in having a ‘successful’ sports program OR they are hiring incompetent ADs. You decide.

Time to eliminate Sodexo

It’s so hard to find information about this stuff but it looks like Duquesne uses Parkhurst Dining. I’m pretty sure ASU uses Aramark. My guess is whoever is your campus caterer people are going to complain about it.

My guess about Sodexo refusing to discount their prices on arena alcohol probably has more to do with our crappy attendance and low revenue than it does Sodexo just being annoying. It’s probably similar to Adidas refusing to make authentic Mason branded gear to sell at the bookstore c

Maybe we can get more people to come to games if they start promoting free head.

One idea that Kim had when he was here was to remove the chairs from the student section. This is one idea that I can fully get behind. We can complain about the wine and cheese crowd all we want but ultimately its on the students to bring the energy and these last few years it looks like a bunch of loser college kids who are more interested in their phones and scratching their a** than actively participating in the game. If you remove the chairs it will help to weed out some of the students that really don't want to be there in the first place. Having less bodies in the chairs but having those that are there to bring it on game day is how you start to remake that whole section. Temporary pain for hopefully a whole new vibe in that section as Tony continues to turn our program in to a consistent winner. Remove the chairs!!

Speaking of attendace.....I've watched the last few games on TV and the lower bowl area looks so bad. With the ugly gold and yellow seats, it very easy to notice them when they are empty.....especailly the yellow ones. I figure most of those empty seats are sold but man we have got get butts in those seats. I'm not sure what can be done about this but something needs to give. Maybe a re-seating next year?

Yes--do a dollar beer night. GMU needs more whacky home game stories.

Hate to say it, but I agree with 79. $1 beers are asking for trouble. Similar to why big screen camera moves to another person once someone starts chugging. Not the message that a university (and their lawyers) want to send.
Thank you, psyclone!
