Yeah - I know a guy who has been a season ticket holder for 5 years or so. I was surprised when he told me he was in the top 400 as far priority points. Kinda depressing.

To be fair we dont know if they grouped several people into numbers for priority points, like 10 of us can be ranked #200 or whatever. Otherwise yes, agree.

It would be the ultimate “penny-wise, pound-foolish” move to keep a mediocre coach because of the sums of money we are discussing.

If Edwards and Washington genuinely believe Dave is the guy and want to give him 2 more years to get it done, I would disagree. But this decision cannot be about money. It just can’t.

Who are you and did @sleeperpick hack into your username? haha

Sunk cost fallacy. I hope someone up at the AD is doing cost benefit analysis on how much more well bleed in donations if we keep him after another meh season. I know me and many others in my section are in the boat of success, new coach, or we aren’t renewing. Individually it’s not a lot but collectively it’s a big chunk of change they’ll lose, and I’m sure we aren’t the only ones.
I agree that is the better way to do it. I think the reality is very different, though. We are in a time where analysis has to fit on a bumper sticker (tweet, FB, etc.). If you can't justify it in half a sentence, I don't see it selling well. Expecting people to buy an argument based on assumptions and predictions is going to be a tough sell while we are on the downward slope of our budget. It will go over much better if you can explain the expense of firing Paulsen early is almost immediately paid for by a savings in the new coaches salary.

It also doesn't help that the same arguments were probably used to get rid of Hewitt and hire Paulsen and that has not panned out.

The president who fired Hewitt is gone. You’d think the AD who hired Paulsen would want to stay good with his new boss, but who knows if Washington even gives a crap?

I could be wrong, but I would think that this decision might have to be justified to the BOV. Don't know if they are still the same ones to which Brad had to justify the Hewitt payout.

I don’t think the BOV has to be involved. Kathy McKay could pay that buyout from her petty cash if Brad asked her nicely.

As I understand it they didn't. I spoke to several people from my section and we are all in the same range but at different numbers in the pecking order. Folks who bought a year or two after me are much further down the list than people who bought the same year as me. We just don't have a ton of season ticket holders.

Far less judging by how high I was on the priority points list. It’s def under 1k. Probably in the 750 range if we’re being honest.
100% under 1000... the plaque with all of our names was very very small last year... I would also guess around 750

I really think any of the St Louis starting 5 would come in and be our best player.... Jacobs the only one I question

"GEORGE MASON PATRIOTS (4-2)

Best win: They’re all kinda poopy, to be honest

Worst Loss: Norfolk State, which may have set their program back another 5 years, no joke

What’s up with them? Truth be told, I grow a little more annoyed with George Mason every season now. This will be season #8 for the Pats in the A10, and they have never finished higher than 5th. In each of those seven seasons, GMU has lost multiple games to KenPom +200 teams (including Fordham) and never had an offense or defense break the top 100 in the nation at any point. Only one season have they been over 500 in conference play, and they have never made even the semis of the A10 tournament. But worse than that, sadly, GMU has lost most of its core fanbase that surfaced around 2006 when they ran to the final four. People who cared, no longer care, average fans are long gone and even diehards are beginning to question what they’re doing here. This will surely be Dave Paulsen’s last season in Fairfax, and I really wouldn’t be shocked if they let him go before the season is over, even though you lose very little by just waiting until season’s end. It’s safe to say at this point that the A10 jump has not been a fruitful endeavor for the Patriots, and my hope is that the administration realizes how dire things are immediately, because the road back up from the bottom takes a long time and you need the right coach, just ask Dayton fans. In the first few years I held hopes that GMU would get things turned around under Paulsen, for the better of the A10, but those days are long, long gone. The sooner you start over completely, the sooner the rebuilding can start, someone run along and tell the AD at GMU. The fans who have stuck around deserve better.

Do they matter? The tone of the paragraph should’ve hinted to you that they do not.

Can they win the A10? Obviously not, but today I learned that George Mason owned a ton of slaves and even bequeathed them evenly to his children in his will. The more you know!"

It shouldn’t take an article like that for them to open their eyes. It took the debacle of the last few days just to widen them. If they don’t know what the issues are they never will.

normally I’d send it to them, but it’s just pouring it on. They know they have to fix it. Perhaps this is good fodder to include in emails in February when the product continues to flounder in league play.

I’m not sending it to anyone, but I find it useful to read this type of analysis from a neutral party in our own league. He has no ulterior motive to do anything but tell it like it is ... and his conclusion validates what we are all seeing. It’s literally that obvious.
