The Atlantic 10 has several outstanding players and Tre Mitchell is at the top of the list. 31 and 11 today in UMass' win against Northeastern. Most talented player in Amherst since Marcus Camby.

https://umassathletics.com/news/202...past-northeastern-in-season-opener-94-79.aspx:

"AMHERST, Mass. – Playing its first game since Mar. 7, 2020 (279 days), the UMass men's basketball team (1-0) received 31 points and 11 rebounds from Tre Mitchell and 23 points from rookie Javohn Garcia as the Minutemen knocked off Northeastern (0-1) on Friday afternoon at the Mullins Center, 94-79.

Mitchell and Garcia led four players in double figures, including Carl Pierre who had 14 including his 250th career three-point field goal, along with T.J. Weeks Jr. with 11 off the bench in his first appearance since missing the final 21 games due to injury last season. Overall, UMass shot 50% from the floor (34-of-68), including 9-of-23 from deep."

Davidson takes care of business tonight, no doubt about it. Wildcats defeated Georgia Southern 77-45, behind SEVENTEEN (17!) made threes tonight!

GW falls on the road to Delaware 68-65. Colonials had the ball down three with 20 seconds left, but their best look was an NBA-range three attempt. Not sure what the play call was but that was ugly.

Jahmir young is the kid on Charlotte that DP didn’t want that is better than any guard on our entire team. Back when Jim trusted DP

I mean, our best player is averaging 1.0 ppg right now while Jordan Miller is averaging 20.0 ppg. I don't think there's much to extrapolate out of our first three games other than to say we stink right now.

Christian went for the quick fix transfers that haven’t mixed well at all.
But with how he’s recruiting, where it’s showing up ranking wise and because of covid. He’s got plenty of Rope.

he also took over from a disaster.

Unfortunately for us, I think A LOT of coaches are going to get extra rope for this season...

Wouldn’t it be the most insane thing ever if Mason decides to keep Paulsen because of COVID, then he suddenly figures it out and gets things rolling here and we all wind up thankful he didn’t get canned?

Not suggesting that’s going to happen. Just saying.

Even more Mason thing to happen, we keep him, he starts to figure it out, and then we can him.

Lol yeah theres about 100 scenarios and you never want to pull the trigger on someone until you are pretty much 100% what you have.

I have to think if this conference season goes south (assuming a full slate of games), covid or no covid, that they would want to go in another direction. He is probably going to have to be at least .500. If everyone stays healthy and they still go 5-13 I don't know how they can justify keeping him unless they think that the recruiting has really turned a corner (which I don't think his recruiting is a "saving grace" at this point) and Dave magically will figure it out in a year. I'd be hard pressed to believe that because I can't see next year being anything more than a reload of a year.

I don't know though, I guess we'll have to see how this all plays out. I know many at mason think the world of Dave as a person and head of the program, but the results aren't where they need to be on the court. Whether he's doing well enough for someone who wants to win more than anyone, is really the key.

If everyone he works with thinks so highly of DP, (and I know he is a nice guy), .....how about he gets these top recruits to think highly enough of him to play for him.

Or has DP figured out, like any true car salesman, who to truly keep happy in order to not get fired?

Yeah- I am not proposing we keep Dave because he's a nice person by any stretch. I don't think anyone is suggesting that I am suggesting that.

I just don't know if those who make the decisions are unhappy or happy at this point. I'd like to think they are unhappy and the results need to improve.

Barring a total collapse, I believe that Coach Paulsen has a get out of jail free card this season.
