It means eventually we will get good again.

Sports runs in cycles. There was a time that the Yankees for example were dreadful.

Hey JMU was just in the NCAA tournament a year ago. And if Benny Moss can win a CAA championship, so can UNCW again.
Only JMU fans think they were in the tourney last year. WE were not in the A-10 tourney this year.

You do know Benny Moss was fired four years ago, right?

Wrong coach. Sorry. He's the fired UNCW coach, I meant Delawares coach Monte Ross.

JMU won their playin game so they did make the first round.

Why can't we always be good? The last time the Yankees were awful was the 1980s when they changed managers 13 times and has 9 different GM's. The Yankees leadership aka Steinbrenner drove that team into the ground during that period. When he finally realized things needed to change he hired an outstanding manager in Joe Torre and a great GM in Brian Cashman. The Yankees also spend like nobody's business but that's beside the point. They realized it starts with good, consistent leadership. Joe Torre and now Joe Girardi deliver that.

Fire Hewitt and make sure Tommy O walks this summer. Bring in an AD who wants to run a flagship and winning athletics program..and the right coach will be sure to follow.

The Yankees also did some things like build around Jeter, Posada, and Rivera. 2 of which turned into Hall of Famers to be. Its not exactly easy to do that.

Needless to say Hewitt isn't the answer going forward, but he'll be around for year 4. If he had 3 20 loss seasons then he wouldnt be. We'll see what happens with TOC.

The problem here is that in the minds of many, year 1 and 2 we won quite a few games even without an NCAA berth. Hewitt will be given at least another year to prove that this year was an exception and not the rule. The worst thing to have happen is not that we lose 20+ games or that we turn it around. It's that middle ground where become just mediocre. Enough to keep Hewitt around for year 5.

I really hope TOC and Cabrera aren't satisfied because we beat up on cupcakes with no meaningful result year 1 and made the CIT year 2. That'd make me more sad.

The difference being that when the Yankees front office realized that the manager was unable to maximize the team talent........that manager was FIRED......a la George Steinbrenner(The Boss). The Boss would have fired Hewitt and his staff the first year for coming up short.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen much from the University that tells me they are willing to commit to elevating the program much beyond what it is now. Get rid of Hewitt and we'll become a revolving door of asst coaches who will jump for greener pastures if the opportunity presents itself. I think it more imporant that TOC be removed than Hewitt and for the school itself to realize that the basketball program has value well beyond what they seem to think it is.

How is it that Jenkins had zero points last night? Why does it take a half to get Sherrod Wright in the scoring column?, why is it that we allow constant offensive rebounds by the opposing team, and easy buckets. Why is Marco lost and adds nothing to the team? Notice how Jenkins was less and less a factor. One man's opinion is that it is all a refection of the coaching or lack thereof. Say what you want about lack of talent, but this current coach doesn't know how to teach basic basketball skills, nor does he know how to develop individual play.

So TOC takes the easy way out and keeps Hewitt. Does anyone really think they are going to do much better next year? Please, its possible they lose 25 games next year.
Oh well, just hard to stomach.

I really do think this is the #1 problem, which is amazing considering we all get to watch what vcu's done and how it's worked out for them. They have new branding opportunities, merchandising, donations, boosters, ticket sales, facilities because of some silly little basketball team that they've nurtured, and by nurturing I mean retained the coach and reinvested into the team. It's a f'n snowball effect. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Start the investment process now!

This really wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have a case study of "what to do" 2 hours south of us.

Rockster! Thank you for your observation because when I was watching the game I felt the exact same way.........as the great coach Vince Lombardi would say: "WHAT THE HELL IS GO'N ON"

The sad thing is the university (TOC) thought it was investing in the program when it overpaid for a retread loser coach. So Tom "Dumb a**" O'Connor, pay attention, when you overpay for something you are not investing, you are simply throwing money away. Kind of like the salary the university is paying you.

Foul trouble was Jenkins issue.

Marko got a couple good hook shots to fall.
