I am no genius but the gaggle of homers on this site make me feel like one every day... dude can't recruit (not linked to any of our good players.... except Kier) and can't coach (see how shitty we have been since he got here)... but you're right the next Boeheim is at William and Mary

You tend to be very generous when sharing your nonsense, negativity and ignorance.

Williamsburg does have a better quality of life IMO though.
It's a great day trip/weekend trip. I've done it recreationally twice and it was great. But beyond that, Williamsburg gets old quick.

In a town of only 15,000 people, they have over 20 retirement homes.

And how long do you think you could handle people starting out their sentecnes with "Hear Ye, Hear Ye" and ring that god damn bell every time?

I'm curious. How many CAA teams have a practice facility and 10K+ capacity stadium? Would we be top dog if we were still in the CAA?

Not sure any of them have a 10K+ capacity arena. I guess G Mas is close to that #, but they can't fill it anyway.

And I doubt it.

When was the last time we had one of our assistants leave to become a D1 Head coach? I know we have had guys leave and become coaches later, but I can’t remember someone being hired directly from our bench. We can debate the quality of our coaches but it is pretty impressive and wish DF the best. He’s a good dude and hopefully he can finally get them to the tourney. Also hope DP hires someone either with ties to Mason ( Butler or Skinn) or someone with ties to the DMV, maybe pluck a high school coach or something...

I grew up in Williamsburg btw I'm a little biased...

There's a heck lot of old people so I'll give ya that.

Just the City of Williamsburg (area of Colonial Williamsburg) has 15K. James City County as a whole has a population of 75K. All of James City County has a Williamsburg address so anything that's in James City County is considered Williamsburg.

Because its a tourist town, there's a hella lot of family things to do and the locals get it all to themselves 9 months out of the year.

I'd move back to Williamsburg in a heart beat but unfortunately my parents still live there. I need to maintain my 3 hour buffer between them and me.

I’m talking about being able to see something in a kid that others can’t. You have to have that if you are going to be a successful recruiter at most schools who aren’t routinely landing 4 and 5 stars.

His recruiting was very mediocre if not below avg. To have your head coach say at years end that "we look different athletically and physically" than the upper echelon, that's pretty much a clear declaration that my recruiter sucked. Bet DP lobbied his a** off for DF.

I'm the complete opposite. Lived in Yorktown for 10 years and hate everything about that area (Williamsburg included). I find excuses to not visit my mom.

That said, I also found ways to get out of NoVA. F Virginia. :D

Agree 100%. Interesting hire by W&M. Wish Fischer well, but it seems contrary to the "we expect to be a tournament team" narrative put forth by the AD. I bet the hire had a lot to do with experience at Bucknell.

“He is a competitor. He understands what is required to win at a highly selective academic institution and he embraces all that makes William & Mary special."
https://www.wm.edu/news/stories/201...t-william-mary-head-mens-basketball-coach.php

Tournament experience? Bucknell. Success at a top tier academic institution? Bucknell. Semi-local recruiting ties? Mason.

I guess the hire makes sense, but I'm a little surprised that W&M didn't go for someone with head coaching experience or a P5 assistant after some of their comments when Shaver was let go.

There's a guy on these boards that doesnt like people being referred to as horses.
As the arbiter of horse related topics, I am going to allow beating a dead horse this time due to your fortunate timing.

I am about ready to beat a live horse as I have spent most of winter and now spring treating a horse with repeated abscesses in his hoof due to the unusually wet followed by cold winter. Daily routine of replacing the bandage contraption on his hoof is getting really old. He is lucky that he is good and my favorite of the bunch.

I'll throw another name out there as a replacement- Kevin Nickelberry who was Howard's head coach until a few weeks ago. He's a DC guy and can get players. I'm told he isn't cut out to be a head coach, but is a very good recruiter.

Tony Skinn would be fantastic, but he's at Seton Hall right now and unless he wants to take a home team discount, I don't know that you could lure him away. But he'd have a ton of cache with local area kids and we can just show this clip on loop before every game:

I've got to imagine, though, that Bryson Johnson has Fischer's spot, and if Kelly does go, we'll see what happens with the second.

W&M’s top five scorers have eligibility remaining, but first-team All-CAA forward Nathan Knight is evaluating his NBA stock, while five other Tribe players have said they are exploring transfer options while waiting to meet W&M’s new coach.

Let's see how many of them he can keep there. Sounds like he may need a big man who is eligible immediately, a going away gift from Mason's roaster.

It sounds like W&M has a better shot at making the tourney than Mason.

DP values a winning culture. He recruits players who have won championships. I wouldn’t be surprised if he picks a high school school coach from a winning program (Paul VI).

Pretty sure Mike Gillien went to Longwood iin 03 or 04.

I would be shocked to see Dave hire Tony Skinn. Tony was a finalist for an assistant job, but got past over in favor of Duane Simpkins. I prefer Lamar. I think it would be awesome.
