I'm not surprised by that at all. I would assume the hope would be to be as close to cost neutral as possible, and any financial costs being a trade off for increased atmosphere/interest in school/etc.

Wonder if the proposed new soccer stadium would be able to accommodate football as well (I think the scheduling should be workable for all 3 teams), with ability to expand in future if expansion is warranted.
Highly doubt it from the look of the renderings. Seems unfair to the soccer team as well. That would severely f**k up the field. Plus I think Cabrera/Edwards are forward thinking enough to realize soccer will only continue to grow and there's still room to get in on the ground level and build a class program before the popularity explosion hits. That means giving them their own nice facility.

For football I think everyone would be fine with something akin to JMU: a 25k seater and competitive in 1AA. Would love to have a solid rivalry with them.

I hate to be Johnny Raincloud on this, but...

App St. should be embarrassed they only get 24,000. There is absolutely nothing to do in Boone, NC. Nothing. It makes Harrisonburg looking like a "happening place". They have zero competition, besides the new WalMart in town.

Boone the city only has a population of less than 20,000. Same with the college.

It would be pretty miraculous if they drew much more than that.

Just looked at the renderings and completely agree regarding the soccer stadium - proposal was for only 3,000, I think converting track and field would be more likely and not have any crossover with the seasons, except for spring ball maybe.

I don't want Mason involved with any sport where the players hate 'merica or the fans hate free speech or it takes money from our basketball program.

so when I mentioned Brad on the Military Bowl board of directors, I didn't mean to re-start the football thread again. My apologies to all who have lived through the years of back-and-forth on this topic on these boards.

Couldn’t Brad just be adding to his resume for the next opportunity? To me he seems like he’s bound to jump ship to a bigger school once he’s proved himself enough to get an offer. Fortunately for us when he does end up leaving we should be in a much better situation then when he arrived.

I've been hearing variations of this since the 1980s. Will. Not. Happen.

I did think that when I saw he was added to the board.

Are there really 50,000 people in Northern Virginia who are going to spend their Saturday afternoon going to a George Mason football game? It's not like we're in Harrisonburg where there's nothing else going on.
I hate this argument. Yes there is things to do, but people in nova love football and hate going to redskins games. They are practically begging for an alternative

What facts do you have to back that up?

The fact there used to be a long waiting list to get redskins season tickets, and now they pull seats out of the stadium every year. The fact I just hear people saying its the worst NFL experience.

The Washington Redskins who a few seasons ago boasted a waiting list for season tickets of more than 200,000 names, have removed thousands of seats from FedEx Field for the third time in five seasons, further decreasing the capacity of what was once the National Football League's largest stadium

There probably are a large portion of Nova residents that love college football, as in, they love watching their alma mater play.
