Don't they hold concerts there?
At EBA? Yes. But it's also the basketball team's main practice facility.

That ones just for showI thought we just opened a new practice facility.
Damn, I was going to ask if Corey Edwards was going to start this year.
Trinity Christian is in my brother's conference. They suck at sports.
Well that would be nice. Not 100% sure but I believe video panels on the scoreboard will be ready for Oct 13th.
I can't wait for Mason Madness! Why do I have a feeling it is going to be even more special than usual?
Brad is now on the Board of the Military Bowl
Let the speculation begin that this means we'll have I-A football in 5 years..........
Does this mean we can finally give students kryptonite green glow sticks for when team is introduced?Because EBA won't have 1980s style high school gym lights that take 20 minutes to warm up?
Are there really 50,000 people in Northern Virginia who are going to spend their Saturday afternoon going to a George Mason football game? It's not like we're in Harrisonburg where there's nothing else going on.
Ap. St. has a capacity of only 24,000, Duke has capacity of 40K and rarely, if ever, sells out. Don't quite need those numbers, but you are right that we will need 10's of thousands to attend regularly to make it worthwhile.

I hate to be Johnny Raincloud on this, but...
App St. should be embarrassed they only get 24,000. There is absolutely nothing to do in Boone, NC. Nothing. It makes Harrisonburg looking like a "happening place". They have zero competition, besides the new WalMart in town.
Duke has an athletic budget that's $41million more that ours. They also have Clemson, Florida State, and Miami come to town.
So it's apples and oranges.
The only colleges around here in our market that are somewhat similar to us is Georgetown, GW, and maybe Marymount, but they're D3. However, you could make the argument that best case scenario we would be on Howard's level, who I didn't even know had a team until a few months ago.
Just to be devil's advocate, I would counter that Ap. State is FAR from embarrassed about their football situation. Ask any Ap. State alum. My point was simply that having attendance of 50k is not a must.
You have a pretty good point about Duke's overall budget being able to offset the costs (losses) associated with football, though. I think it all comes down to money, but there is enough population/interest/recruiting talent in this area to support a team, but it has to be done right (ie - full DI within a reasonable amount of time) and won't be easy or cheap.
Closest competition for big time football in this area is Fed Ex field on the other side of the beltway, where people hate going and are continuously supporting less and less.
I believe I heard, as of 5 years ago, that only 5-6 colleges actually MADE money on football. Of course, that doesn't include school publicity, additional enrollment, etc. It's just the money brought in through tickets, sponsors, vendors, etc. is greater than football expenditures like scholarships, staff salary, etc.
I think the schools were Alabama, Penn St., Ohio St., Michigan, and Texas.
