GIVING DAY 2023
Dear Brad,

Two words: hype video.

I need a fix. Do we have a film student somewhere who can cobble something together? I can barely use email, let alone edit a YouTube.

I've been watching this one on loop (if you need a template):

Crazy, am I right?

Love,
Bricks

PS: Looking back, thos unis were hideous. Why would we ever want to go back to Nike?
Gives me the chills. Love it

Other posters seem to be hinting at this question in other threads (game day experience thread and survey thread). So, other than hiring Dave Paulsen (in my opinion the most important job for Brad Edwards) are people seeing any concrete progress by the Athletic Department on topics that impact the men's basketball program?

Some areas, off the top of my head, where progress would be most welcome:
Fundraising, specifically for items that impact men's basketball
Practice facility
Game day experience
Arena upgrades

No clue in terms of fundraising where the basketball programs are at, but I know there have been more events to help fund raise for the program (Final Four Dinner, the event in the fall etc). I suspect it has improved but I don't have numbers or anything factual to back that up.

As far as the practice facility, last I heard they weren't close to the fundraising number. That said, it is very quiet just like the fundraising for the baseball stadium as they seem to be targeting big donors. My understanding is the facility is priority #1.

The gameday experience has been fixed somewhat by the product on the court, but much of the activities remain the same. Its nice to see the hype videos in the corners and I did hear that there was talk of trying to get some sort of LCD video panels. But I have no idea where that's at as with the arena upgrades. Someone needs to talk to someone in charge and have the news trickle around..

That said I have to say whenever I give money or need something, always very responsive and get constant thank yous for support, even if its as simple as asking for tax information. Never hounded for additional money and being thankful is good stuff.

Nothing will be seen, unitl money has been committed to it. Don't fret, Darrel Green is here. IF in a year we have nothing to show for our investment in him, then we got issues.

As bummed as I am about yesterday, it's nice to see that they're finally soliciting donations from the public for the practice facility and releasing renderings. Poaitive direction from the AD. Hopefully they get the Phase II funds in place so there isn't a huge gap betweeen the two phases.

I'm not sure if this was posted anywhere but I googled just to see if anything was on the faster further gmu site about the practice facility and did find this

I'm glad there was a public commercial about the facility at the game yesterday as well. Hopefully they can put all this together.

I am all aboard the Dave Paulsen happy ending love fest. The team improved dramatically from the utter shitty bonfire of human misery that was left by Hewitt. I am amazed at how quickly he was able to turn it around. Period end of story.

With regards to fundraising for practice facility - yes yes yes . Shows a glamour shot of what could be and I will open my wallet towards that goal. Despite the loss still very happy - f**king hard on and ready to drill happy.

Can you legally spend it on something else if that's what B&N earmarked it for? That's well over half of the cost of Phase I which we've had to scrap to which leads me to believe we blew it elsewhere.

Good question- Although Merten put the nix on any practice facility (from what it appears), Hewitt said at one point TOC came to him with a whole plan for a facility and he said no on the basis that the RAC was fine. I think Cabrera was president by then though, since I believe Oconnor also hinted to the facility when he emailed everyone saying Mason was staying in the CAA.

I just hope any money that was able to be spent from the donation (if not all) was put back into the program in one way or another.

Wasn't there a buy-out needed for PH? Or was it a case of his contract just expiring?

Yes he was bought out- I'm guessing they just paid him as if he was working at the university. I don't think they would have pulled any donation to help with that, considering he had incentives etc- so all that money had to be available.

Glad to hear they are soliciting funds directly for this project (even if it is not a dedicated practice facility...). That is definitely a step in the right direction. Would be nice if they made it easy for people to specifically donate to it, though.

President's Day surfing. They are planning to build a basketball practice facility that isn't dedicated for basketball? Makes no sense.

Where do you see its not dedicated for Bball?

It was mentioned in Brian's post, parenthetically. I took it to mean that it wasn't to be a stand-alone building. The intention is for it to be dedicated to the basketball with an annex added to the RAC's Cage gym for related facilities--at least that's my understanding.

Not sure what the purpose of that parenthetical is. Seems like a needless negative swipe. After the rebuild, the RAC is a pretty damn nice building on its own and is in a good location on campus.

And a lot of schools in the A-10 and elsewhere have practice facilities that are either attached to their arenas (like St. Louis and Louisville) or have spaces in them for sports other than basketball (like Davidson).

But, yes, they should make it easier to donate specifically to the practice facility campaign, maybe even set up its own dedicated micropage on the website that include renderings.

That is correct, it is not a stand-alone building.

Donations can be made by simply calling the patriot club at the number that was given at the end of the video. How much easier should it be?
