Another serious question is how much do we spend on these crap giveaways? Like the hoop hats or ugly sweater beanies? I'm sure we get some huge discount but even if we're spending a thousand a game on this stuff it seems like money better spent elsewhere for a program struggling to find the funds to replace the courts in the cage gym.

That being said please don't ever can the free replica jersey at homecoming. Those things are the best workout tanks ever.

Anyone with a full-time job should be able to kick in $5 a month...that's one less Venti Caramel Macchiato a month from Starbucks that could be going to the basketball team instead of your waistline.

Venti Caramel Machiato?

A Mother F'N VENTI CARAMEL MACHIATO!!!???

I see one of you skinny jeans wearing hipster homos walking around with that I'm gonna give you a Venti Caramel punch in your F'n uterus which I can only assume you have. I will hammer you like a slot receiver going over the middle.

Venti caramel machiato. Fock You!

I think they get sponsors to pay for some of those, the t-shirts and bobbleheads always have some sort of branding on them from a sponsor.

Of course they can but will they? The department would have to be aggressive to get people to sign up. Why would people who graduated last year who sat through three garbage season of Hewitt and a rebuild year feel inclined to donate? Not every student enjoys Mason athletics and I would assume that they feel $5 to a program they don't see as being successful is $5 down the drain. Now if they were shown concrete plans as to what that money was going towards they may be more inclined. Or if they school came up with some incentive like "donate 5 a month and every year you can choose 1 game where you get premium seats." or something to that effect.

I think the school needs to try to (long term) turn the games into more of a social event that helps bring in students and create good memories even if the team has fallen on hard times.

I've worked at a non-profit (as a copy writer no less), so I know all about aggressively pushing calls to action. It is something Mason and Mason's AD probably doesn't do enough of in their communication.

The trick is to make it easy to donate without overloading alumni with requests (because then you just get people annoyed, then pissed off).

You know who drinks Venti Caramel Macchiatos? Girls. Lots of them. Usually very young.

Some of them definitely, others it doesn't seem as though anyone but ourselves is paying for it.

Hell yea! Dunkin' Donuts all the way! Haven't stepped foot in a Starbucks since the CEO informed me that, after dropping over 5 bucks for a cup of joe in his establishment, I was a racist.

I have mentioned this probably 3 times on this board, but is there a "small donation" reachout program?

If not, WHY? I know you guys are involved with giving to Mason...

This was one of my pet peeves under the previous administration, that there were no campaigns for basketball. I became utterly frustrated with the situation and gave up.

When I attempted to re-engage with the AD at the beginning of the Paulsen era, I was hopeful things had changed, but, before I plunked down a large donation (towards a practice facility), I wanted to see evidence that they were going to have actual campaign dedicated to it or the basketball team in general. I still don't see much of a change in that regard (though, if it has changed in the last 9-12 months, I wouldn't know as I completely disengaged last spring for reasons discussed in other threads).

Seems to be a campaign among established donors and businesses but targeted to the general alumni population

Could someone in the AD office send some hoes and blow over to Brian so he can feel good about giving again?

I commend Brad Edwards for hiring Mark LaFrance as the new men's basketball SID. I'm seeing a definite improvement in the game notes and other reporting since he's arrived:

I think I've mentioned this before, but some interesting possible information in this article about D.C. United starting a USL team (3rd division professional soccer).

"United has begun a preliminary search for a playing venue, with Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds and the University of Maryland’s Ludwig Field under consideration.

The team has also spoken with officials at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., about building a 5,000-seat stadium as the centerpiece of a permanent training facility for United’s senior team, USL squad and youth academy. Mason’s soccer teams would use the stadium and practice fields, as well."

Get it done, Brad.

It's only a couple grand. For example things like rally towels, beanies, etc can run $200-600 for each major giveaway. Sponsors and Bulk buy discounts help out too. The most expensive one is most likely the bobbleheads, but those are always a big hit.

You're making something small a big deal.

Agreed, so for he has been easy to work with and seems to really enjoy it. Longwood game had the most people in the post game presser yet. #Buzzing
