Agreed, so for he has been easy to work with and seems to really enjoy it. Longwood game had the most people in the post game presser yet. #Buzzing

Speaking of the postgame presser, I noticed that the video on gomason.com does not include the question to Otis about his FT shooting.

Dear Brad,

Two words: hype video.

I need a fix. Do we have a film student somewhere who can cobble something together? I can barely use email, let alone edit a YouTube.

I've been watching this one on loop (if you need a template):

Crazy, am I right?

Love,
Bricks

PS: Looking back, thos unis were hideous. Why would we ever want to go back to Nike?

I think I've mentioned this before, but some interesting possible information in this article about D.C. United starting a USL team (3rd division professional soccer).

"United has begun a preliminary search for a playing venue, with Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds and the University of Maryland’s Ludwig Field under consideration.

The team has also spoken with officials at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., about building a 5,000-seat stadium as the centerpiece of a permanent training facility for United’s senior team, USL squad and youth academy. Mason’s soccer teams would use the stadium and practice fields, as well."

Get it done, Brad.

under the old regime, this would be dead in the water. As I've posted previously, back in the 90s a Clark Griffith summer league baseball team approached Mason with cash to spend to upgrade the baseball facility. Mason would have full use for camps and the summer league team would use it for.......summer league games. No brainer, right? nope. So that money went to the town of Vienna and then later to Barcroft Field's renovation; home to GW baseball.

Mason was then approached by the pro softball team that was going to start play in DC and construction began on an improved softball facility. the pro team never materialized which is why the current softball grandstand doesn't reach from dugout to dugout. Mason got burned so that was the end of any type of facility sharing with TOC.

Penn State built a beautiful baseball stadium on campus that the State College Spikes minor league team uses during the summer - see http://www.gopsusports.com/facilities/lubrano-park.html.

I've been there - great stadium. West Virginia University has done the same - stadium isn't quite as nice as PSU's, but I'm sure it is a vast improvement over what WVU had. Bring the P-Nats to Fairfax! PSU and WVU host short season NYPenn teams though - season only goes from late June to early September. A Carolina League team like the P-Nats needs a home from April - early September. It seems the P-Nats have been trying to get a new stadium for at least a decade.

Wasn't the Shirley gate property mentioned for a sports complex at one point for the P nats?

But the Mason fight song isn't in the video. That doesn't get you hyped? :bricks:

If I were to select "other" and then write in the box that I want my monthly donation to go towards the practice facility, what are the odds that it actually will?
If you want to donate to the basketball practice facility, the baseball stadium, or other specific facilities projects, I recommend contacting Jennifer Montgomery directly.

Football might now be the right fit for Mason right now, but the demographics are there for some major support for soccer with the right investment. The Patriot Park proposal is gorgeous and should be a priority. Mason Stadium just looks too much like a high school facility.

I don't know how revenue sharing would work with DC United. I'd assume they'd also play their Open Cup matches there as well as train. It'd be a nice way to get some people onto campus in the summer.

Yea, those designs are awesome. Practically the whole athletic complex over there looks like a high school. The fact that we allowed a D1 baseball program to play at that sorry excuse of a "facility" for so long is embarrassing. Glad the AD is finally making a legitimate push at upgrading that entire athletic complex.

I'm with you on that. Honestly, facilities are probably the quickest route to success, especially in the non basketball and football sports. I'd like to imagine that the baseball team will be able to recruit a bit better when their field is done.

Being a soccer fan I couldn't be more pumped for Patriot Park. Mason Stadium packed its sorry a** bleachers for the UVA game a few years back. Looks like the new place will have a student section so hopefully more games will be like that one.

But, is the proposed deal in the best interests of the county residents?

"Brailsford and Dunleavy believe all that work by the county on the project would be worth the effort. They estimate that the project will generate more than $4.7 million in economic activity for the county each year and will directly support 84 jobs. The consultants estimate that the stadium can induce an additional $2.5 million in spending in the county and indirectly support 204 other jobs.

Eckstein, the Villanova professor, cautions that county leaders shouldn’t take those rosy projections at face value, and should think long and hard about whether such a deal is worth it.

'The promises never get met in reality,' Eckstein said. 'There’s a Wegmans right next door, and I would imagine that the Wegmans probably does more business in a year, probably even half a year, than the stadium will do, all told...And I don’t think Wegmans asked for the county to pay for their construction costs.'"
