Dude, what? Do you see the other schools involved? THIS is how competitive the PG market is right now.
I just don’t view the 3rd backup guard from witchita as a massive upgrade over XJ last season. I’m taking the whole “offers and interests” tweets with a massive grain of salt from others I’ve seen. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have him, but I personally don’t think he gets us over the hump on the PG position.

Also he’s already 22 going on 23 so it’s not like we can expect to see massive strides in development. At some point, you are who your stats say you are.

He started 24 of 25 games last season.

So 7.3 Pts., 4.9 Rebounds, 3.6 Assists (led team), 1.6 Steals (led team), and 1.1 Blocks (led team) per game average while starting 24 of 25 games.

Yeah, why would want that.

Sorry was looking at Witchitas site which for whatever reason isn’t updated and listed 20-21 as the most recent season. Looking at his numbers certainly better than I was looking at, but I largely stand by my original thoughts that he isn’t a massive upgrade for Oduros final season with us.

Not very many realistic options for a “massive” upgrade. I said a couple of weeks ago that the market was extremely competitive, and that trend has continued. At this point, Porter would be a very nice addition. He averaged 9.9ppg in AAC play, along with 5.6rpg & 4.1apg.

I think what’s happening is a phenomenon known as “We want Rudi!”

With all due respect to everyone else, they all seem like Plan B.

Rudi would be a 480-foot grand slam.

I agree with you, but our Plan A is in Provo at the moment.

Can he defend A10 level guards? Can he take care of the ball against pressure? Can he get it to our shooters in good spots? With Bailey, Gaines, Oduro, and Coop he can be our fifth scoring option so long as he can score when he needs to.

Well he’s been defending AAC guards. Rudi was defending against the Sun Belt. Morgan had a Defensive rating of 93 per 100 possessions. Rudi was at 96.

I have no idea about any of your other questions as I’ve only known that this guy exists for a couple of hours.

When we recruited justyn and Dinkins people here said they would be day one starters. Are we underestimating Dinkins? Anyone seen him live?

It'd be pretty remarkable for a player of his size to come in ready to start day 1. The coaches are looking for a starting point guard for a reason.

Someone posted a recap after seeing him live awhile back. If I remember correctly, the takeaway was pretty much not to expect him to be ready to contribute right away. Could be wrong though.

Wouldn't you say he is similar in size to Otis Livingston or a Tremaine Price?

It’s a fair point and I think both will be the real deal. That said it all comes back to “win now” and not making any sort of gamble with a frosh point guard. If Dinkins is even okay he makes the team that much better, but going into the season Mason needs much more of a “sure thing” at pg as we all know.

Those two are in totally different situations.

JF had half a prep year at IMG facing high-level competition, then started college early and has been in Mason’s strength and conditioning program since January. He’s also a freak athlete with a college-ready frame.

Could Dinkins start right away if we were in a pinch like when Otis was a freshman? Sure. But he’s not close to ready physically and all we’d do is break him down from overuse just like Otis did.

This team is so much better than Otis' first team despite having Shevon then. One would think the PG spot could be fun here with our current roster which is weird we haven't signed one yet.

Looking at it objectively, if you have one year left of college ball aren’t you gonna think twice or three times about spending it with a program that hasn’t been to the NCAAs in 11 years?

The guys we’re pursuing have options. That’s a good thing even though it makes recruiting harder for the staff.

I saw him play in the WCAC tournament at Robinson on Feb. 26 and posted the following.

I just got back from the game. Here are DD's stats for the day and a few observations.
Gonzaga won 66-52.

16 points on 6 for 15 shooting (3-7 from 3)
1-2 from the foul stripe
4 assists
2 rebounds
0 turnovers
2 steals

The good: DD clearly understands the score, game, and clock situations. He knew what to do and when to do it, especially at the end of the game. He played 32 out of 32 minutes. He can be a good on the ball defender when he wants to. He clearly ramped up his play in the 4th quarter.

The not so good: He forced a number of shots when trying to penetrate into the lane. His dribble was a bit loose on a few occasions. He would have had several turnovers had the ball bounced a different way. He is small.

Please take everything with a grain of salt. This was the first time I have seen him play in person. I trust that KE knows a lot more about the game than I do and that he knows what he wants in a player. Time will answer all questions.
