Offurum going to JMU hurts… kind of.

It’s not that we needed Offurum, but we do desperately need a forward. Offurum is the only one we know of that we have been linked to. Elvis is a forward, but we need someone we can plug in immediately.

Good news is there are plenty of other forwards out there as good or better than Offurum. There is still one more week for others to enter the portal.

The bad news in my eyes (and I differ from others on here about this) is I think it’s a tougher sell because I don’t think there are as many minutes available as others do for a guy with similar skills as an Offurum.

I’m less worried about offurum than I will be if we don’t land Rudi Williams. JMU has a lot more minutes to offer up at the 4 than we do, and honestly he’ll probably be more successful in this new look CAA than the A10.

Rudi makes us a lot better. He would be a home run.

I’m also very intrigued with Saquan. He was listed as a PG out of high school, but the limited film I’ve seen of him at New Mexico didn’t really have him running point - doesn’t mean he can’t I guess. I would love to find more New Mexico film from his junior year when he was healthy and averaging over 8 points a game.

It sucks because I want all three guys that are currently visiting, but we can’t have them all without being screwed at forward. Can’t we just put Peter Oduro on a Kathy McKay NIL scholarship and use his spot for a grad transfer 4?

Offurum was looking for mins. We can't promise them. Now Rudi is different. We miss on him and KE starts getting the crooked eye.

We need to balance out the classes to a degree, and I do think we need a third incoming freshman.

Other than the PG spot (Rudi) we don't have a ton of minutes to sell to incoming recruits. we are looking for role players who can contribute and develop next year into becoming a starter the following year.

The staff wanted Mezie and Elvis.

KE made it clear during his final coaches show that he wanted someone to come in and start at the 4.

This is very likely Oduros last year. We are in win now mode.

I agree they want to bring in an immediate starter at the 4 spot. But as near as I can tell, that guy is not on campus right now. Maybe soon.

Sounds like a severe lack of confidence and a total tear-down and rebuild. Not a good look for a grad transfer with only one year of eligibility remaining, especially if Mason is looking for position upgrades. Unless Saquan is a lockdown defender, methinks Mason and CKE can do better.

Just looking at the other guys who were on the floor with him, it seems like New Mexico was using Singleton as either a 3 or a 4. We'd need to watch game film to figure out which it was. Any chance we're thinking of using him at the 4?

Some of our fans need to stop thinking of every recruit as some savior coming in to play 25 minutes a game. Yes, we do have a few open opportunities for those guys, but the thing sorely missing last season was two or three bench players who could give us 8-12 meaningful minutes a game — or occasionally more if a starter got in foul trouble or injured.

It's easier said than done getting kids in the portal to come here for reduced minutes, but there are definitely opportunities to be an important role player here if guys are willing to embrace that role.
