GIVING DAY 2023
Watched some film on Rudi this morning. The thing that jumps out to me is how well he can score all over the court. He can shoot the three, he can drive and pull up mid range, or he can drive all the way and score at the rim. He also found the open guy after driving to the basket - really well rounded player.

I think we really lacked a guard that could beat their man off the dribble last year - XJ did it at times with some success. Williams can do that. He’s not just a 3 point shooter. The open looks our 2’s and 3’s would get with Williams driving would definitely increase.
Definitely agree. I loved when XJ would get out on the break and get to the rim. Unfortunately I feel like he did a lot more of that in non-conference versus conference but maybe I'm dreaming.

Rudi just seems a bit more polished and confident all around, whether its putting up a 3 or getting out on the break.

I'd love to have him for a year, give Dinkins time to settle in and have Polite as depth. Getting a kid like this would be very crucial for the program to have big success.

Memphis PG Tyler Harris being recruited over & in the portal

Memphis point guard Tyler Harris entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report by The Commercial Appeal’s Jason Munz. Harris was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018. He committed to Memphis and was very productive for two seasons. Then he transferred to Iowa State and averaged 7.5 points per game in 2020-21. But Harris returned to Memphis this past season. Harris played in all 33 games (three starts), and the 5-foot-9 guard averaged 8.8 points and 1.7 assists per game. Harris announced that he was leaving Memphis on Twitter, and the veteran guard said it was not his call.

many may view college basketball as a game, but it should be increasingly obvious that for most Division 1 colleges and coaching staffs this is a business and players/college students are one of the most important assets

Would be feeling better if Mason had already finalized a visit date with Rudi Williams … he’s going to Xavier this weekend, then BYU and Wichita State, and also expects to visit UConn and San Diego State.

I’d love to be wrong but am officially filing this one as a very long shot, given the competition.

I'm as anxious as the next guy but I have to think the staff is going to keep on this whole "lets get an experience PG" experience without stopping. Not a chance they want to go in with Ronnie/Devin as their main PGs next year.

Kinda disappointing that we don’t have a visit scheduled with Williams yet, I’d hope it’s one of our highest priorities to get him on campus and out eating a well done steak dinner with Oduro here very soon.

Rocket Watts just hit the portal. Former Top50 PG who spent 2 years at Michigan State, before transferring to Mississippi State last year. Has battled injuries. Will need a waiver to play immediately.

KE and Nate both follow him on twitter. Don't know when that started.

Mason is a PG away of being an a10 contender. I sure hope KE can pull this off.

Fairfax is the richest county, I’m sure someone/company can pony up a lucrative NIL deal for Rudi
Unfortunately we only have 1 Kathy McKay. If you can find some more I’m sure KE and the school would love to have them.

At the risk of folks thinking I stalk their Twitter profiles, I seem to recall them having followed Rocket since before coming to Mason.

I would love for someone to start a Collective so we can crowdfund an NIL initiative. However that is a full time job, and experience in some combination of fundraising, athlete representation, and compliance would be required.

I know of one effort that is underway for Mason fans to do some sort of collective NIL deal to give people an opportunity to contribute in a crowdfunding manner. If it comes to fruition, I'll be sure to publicize it here.

Deep dive into Mezie Offurum this morning.

First off, I wasn't fair with him earlier comparing him to a Joel Kabimba and I apologize for that. Mezie is much better than Joel.

His numbers don't exactly blow you away. They aren't bad. But they aren't the eye popping stats you might expect from a NEC player looking to transfer up. Same can be said regarding his time at GW. Looking at just that information, it's tough to get super excited about the possibility of him coming to Mason.

Having said that, there are some positives. He is someone that has that big frame that can hang in the A10. He is very versatile and can play out near the three point line. He would be someone you can pair up with Oduro, but could also spell Oduro. He's pretty athletic. Off the court he's soft-spoken and always smiling - seems like a real good kid.

I don't think he puts us over the top if he signs with us, but I do think he's a fringe starter who can take some pressure off of Oduro. His skill set allows Oduro still to get touches down low, but he can help rebound at his size and can shoot from the outside if needed. He can also play down low if Oduro is out and be successful there too. He will help us, but he's not going to carry us. He's an upgrade over anyone we had on the roster last year coming off the bench. Not sure if he's a starter or not, but I don't think it matters as his minutes will be about the same.

Just my guess.
