From ESPN+ top transfers in portal:

51. Keeshawn Barthelemy, 6-2, 171 lbs., G, Soph., Colorado

Barthelemy quietly had a breakout season in the Pac-12, going from 3.7 points in 2020-21 to 11.1 points in 2021-22. Also improved his shooting, both inside and outside the arc.

61. Bamisile-GW

78. Sam Sessoms, 6-0, 189 lbs., G, Sr., Penn State

Sessoms started his career at Binghamton before spending two seasons at Penn State. His perimeter shooting took a step forward during his time with the Nittany Lions; he averaged 1.1 made 3s per game at a 42% clip this past season. Averaged 11.6 points.

98. Hasan Ward-vcu

It might be just me, but these first few weeks of the off-season have been a little different than I expected. Our staff is playing a lot closer to the vest than I thought they would. We haven’t been linked to as many players as I was expecting, and some of them don’t seem to be priorities which is strange. I don’t know if some of our offers have stipulations to them, but it seems like we are interested, but not too interested. Obviously we have some top targets, but to me it seems like we are waiting to hear from our A list guys before accepting any B list guys.

Of course, I’m judging a lot of this by the amount of social media interaction from our staff to players… so it’s very scientific. When Kim is all in on someone, you can usually tell on his Instagram.

Might have to do with building depth. Can't promise minutes to transfers who want 20-25 per game. I think a stretch four mean machine is top need. Is VBJ a a PG? If not we need Grad transfer PG. So yea, it's does look like we are moving slow to Gunnies point.

But is mason moving slow or is the entire market moving fairly slow? I haven’t looked super close but I don’t think there’s tons of movement especially within the league. The last transfer I’m aware of is Zeb Jackson.

I suspect it’ll pickup over the next few weeks however. My guess is that there are visits scheduled.

I think we are a very attractive place for a PG. We got lots of minutes available there. At first glance obviously not nearly as attractive at the PF spot playing with/behind Josh, but there are some minutes there for someone.

Im thinking a three man rotation at the 4/5 spot with Josh, Ticket, and a transfer where we could go Ticket and Josh/transfer, but also slide Ticket to the 3 and go with all three on the floor.

Throw in Henry and Jones for minutes as well and we should be in better shape than last year.

A good PF could come in and grab 15 min a night, maybe more with foul trouble. Are there solid A10 level PF’s out there willing to transfer here for 15 min a game? I don’t know.

The expectation would be for the transfer PF to play more than 15mpg. Probably closer to 25.

For them to get 25 min, they would have to be a pretty legit player. I mapped out where the minutes would come from and I got 15 to 20 on the high end. Any more than that and either Josh wasn’t on the floor enough, or not enough minutes for our guards (ticket, coop, vbj, fernandez - that’s assuming a PG is coming and it won’t any on those 4).

If he’s getting 25, he’s gotta be really, really good to steal minutes from Josh or those guards.

I know that in order to play the style of defense they want to play, our guards/wings can't continue to play 33 minutes per game.

There are 120 minutes between the 2, 3, and 4. 120 minutes / 5 players = 24 minutes per game on average. Have to imagine this Transfer PF spells Oduro from time to time, so add in maybe 6-8 minutes per game at the 5 when Oduro isn't on the floor for a variety of reasons.

Example of how the minutes could be split between the 2-5.

2/3 spots:
Cooper - 26
Bailey - 26
Fernandez - 24
Ticket - 16

4 spot:
Transfer PF - 20
Ticket - 8

5 spot:
Oduro - 33-35
Transfer PF - 7-5

After that, it's up to Blake Jones, Malik Henry, and potentially Elvis Nnaji to carve out minutes where they can. All of this is assuming that we land the PF that we are targeting.

I don’t think the staff intends for Ticket to spend a lot of time at the 4. He can do it against smaller guard-oriented teams and when matchups allow, but he is a 3 and got pretty beat up having to primarily guard the 4 last season.

That leaves us with a 4-man rotation at the 2/3 spots of Ticket, Coop, Bailey and JF, which is pretty damn strong … it will be nice to have some legit options off the bench.

I’m not sure you see Cooper drop from 33 to 26 min or Ticket go from 33 to 24 min.

As I said before, for us to be able to move Ticket primarily to the 3, the 4 we bring in has to be pretty darn good. I’m not sold that Mezie Offurum is good enough to do that. I can’t see an Offurum type getting more minutes than ticket, fernandez, coop, bailey. A better PF might make me think otherwise, but I’m really not seeing us currently linked with many guys who would be worthy of that many minutes.

Trust me, I would prefer Ticket getting minutes at the three, but not at the expense of putting a 4 out there that is a borderline A10 level player.

Please save this post for when Offurum comes in and averages 16 pts and 8 boards and I’ll gladly eat my words.

Offurum? Who is that?

I think he'd be a grad transfer. I'm sorta mixed about him. Seems like a big body (6'8/230) who could probably play some good quality backup minutes but he also played in the NEC and playing in the NEC is a lot different than the A10. He already was at GW and didn't last long or do well. Assuming the 6'8-230 is accurate (some sites had him at 6'6 but they may have just not updated from his recruiting) that would be the type of bulk we need at the 4 and to spell Josh a few minutes at the 5.

We'll see. I of course would prefer a guy who performed at a higher level but I obviously can't decide who is on the team.

A few things regarding that list.

During the coaches show on Monday night, KE said that they were hoping to bring a 4-man in to start alongside Oduro. Offurum is that 4-man.

I think we are trending for Nnaji. Have to believe a commitment is coming sometime soon.

Sessoms apparently doesn't plan to make a decision public until May 1st, so unless we are able to grab Barthelemy, or someone else that hasn't been reported, this PG situation looks like it will drag on for a bit.

KE talked a lot in the final coach's show about how Coop took on way too many minutes given his post-injury conditioning and ideally he'd be around 28mpg. He also challenged him pretty directly on how well he can defend (talked about him getting torched by Rich Kelly in the UMass game). I think fewer minutes for Coop is best for all parties, and VBJ gives him legitimate competition for that spot.

I agree there will be fewer minutes, I just don’t think it’ll be as dramatic as Patriot8. I would guess both Coop and Ticket at around the 30 min mark.

But a lot still depends on those last three roster spots.

If i recall correctly he also mentioned strength conditioning and eating habits.
