I’ve been curious about Offurum’s fit from the beginning because I assumed Kim would want more of a stretch 4 and perimeter offensive threat, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense.

Having a strong, experienced PF should help in the paint defensively and on the glass, and as a complementary piece on offense that doesn’t demand the ball or disrupt the flow of running everything through Josh and the guards.

We don’t need him to be a star, just be willing to play his role well. I doubt Kim would be interested if he didn’t think Offurum was a good fit in that regard.

He might be a good fit but I’m not sure he’s a good player.

Another theory is that Blake Jones takes minutes as a stretch 4 and allows us to go “big” with Gaines, Jones, Oduro all on the floor at the same time. Someone like Offurum, then, takes the Kabimba spot and pushes Henry for minutes as the primary backup to Oduro.

Will Blake be ready to play significant minutes? I don’t know. He didn’t exactly ever have a breakout performance, so I can’t imagine he’d be ready to more than double his minutes next season. That would be one massive development curve if he did.

You pose an interesting question but I think there has to be some level of expectation that Blake is going to make a big jump from his freshman to sophomore year. He didn't have a full summer of development and I suspect that he will be much improved for this upcoming year. Hopefully he takes a big leap, because I think he can be a very valuable piece of the team. A 6'10 guy who can shoot from deep and defend is great.

I'm still mixed about Offurum. 6'8 230 is the body type we need but the NEC is not the A10, and we do need someone who can actually contribute some backup minutes at the 5 as well as some minutes at the 4. Hes very experienced which is great, but we need more than just a big body to help Josh in practice. Malik has now had 2 years to prove himself and really hasn't done much to earn minutes unless absolutely necessary. We'll see.

Tennessee PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield just entered the portal.

Curious what @Patriot8 thinks about this one.

6-10, only averaged 3.9 ppg and 3 rpg in very sparse playing time as a freshman, but was a top-30 recruit out of HS.

Just as some random message board donk, I’d take him in a heartbeat. Would imagine he’ll have plenty of P5 suitors though, given his pedigree.

I don’t give it much a chance, but I am more than willing to be pleasantly surprised. So please, Brandon… surprise me.

I guess I’m an hour behind on my gushing of the next hot transfer lol.

I suspect he’d transfer up to get more playing time but if he’s well connected with Kim and willing to take some time to develop under Josh (if he needs it), he’d be an amazing get.

And maybe KE was involved in his initial recruitment to Tennessee. Our chances are not great but they're >0. He spent some time at IMG Academy so Fernandez might know him, too. At least it is nice to dream for awhile.

Would KE play 3 out 2 in??? With Josh and BHH it's a given. Imo, I doubt he wants to. Plus, why is he leaving the SEC?? What Were his HS Years like??

Seems he may of not been ready to contribute to the team his first year. He only started near the end of season when their main power forward had a season ending injury.

BHH was originally in the 2022 recruiting class but reclassified and graduated early in 2021, so he’s young (pretty sure he’s still only 18). Tons of upside given the typical development curve for bigs.

Damn, didn’t see that one coming. Would be a huge pickup for us but highly doubt it. He’s going to get plenty of major offers as a former 5-star out of HS that started to pick it up toward the end of the season.
