GIVING DAY 2023
I’m not saying I want to sit on the last scholarship, but a 3-man rotation at the 2/3 spots with two seniors and a junior is about as good as you’re going to get these days.

Imagine being a transfer looking to play right away and the head coach from George Mason comes along and says he wants you to be part of that rotation. Unless you have no other options, that’s not exactly an enticing pitch.

This is valid, that is a tough sell to any transfer. I still don't think we have enough true depth at the SF position though. I agree our bigger need is getting a 5 who can give Oduro some competition, however if we can't do that I'd really like to see us go after a 3 to provide some more depth. I think we are doing okay at the 1,2, and 4 though.

Having Hartwell guard the opposing teams SG is not a situation we want to be in though.
we can't afford to have two absolute sieves playing defense together. Hopefully XJ gets a ton better on the ball this year but if he doesn't I don't want Hartwell within ten feet of the court with XJ on it unless we are purposefully trying to let the other team score.

It obviously won’t be against bigger teams, but adding Henry gives us a lot more flexibility up front than we had last year.

There will be scenarios where Henry and AJ play together and we can also slide Miller to the 4 against small-ball teams if needed.

That to me is a significant improvement over having to stick AJ at the 5 whenever Oduro and Calixte were on the bench.

Damnit! was going to tweet that.

For those who are wondering, Otis Frazier III is announcing his commitment today at 4 (Tweet is from last night).

Final 6: Grand Canyon, Georgia, UIC, Loyola Chicago, Umass, Mason.

A decent top 6. Would not be great to lose out to anyone other than GC or Georgia from that list.

To my knowledge Georgia hasn't offered him... via his Twitter, Verbal Commits, 24-7....

would help with depth at the 3 position if he is good enough to get mins right away. UMASS has dick for schoolies left. Loyola Chicago offered last night... from AZ so maybe GCU has advantage? Don't know much about this kid

Went to Mt Zion in Maryland last year for prep ball so maybe that gives us the upper hand.. friends with n'Guessan from Tech too.

I mean I can't help but think they did if Georgia is in his top 6...?

I'm going to be optimistic based on the timing - the day after Kier ruled us out and he put out the message the same day Kier ruled us out. We'll see at 4!

Plus Anne Holton, Swimom and GMU official twitter all run by complete idiots have already forecasted that he accepted the offer and will be joining us this season. Lets hope they see the future.

Definitely agree but just because he plays the two on offense doesn't mean he has to guard the 2 on defense. I'm not sure how much we will see Hartwell and Xavier on the floor together, but they can always match up with the player that makes each of them a lesser liability defensively.

Hartwell was one of the only players on the team actually fighting over screens and chasing his player off the 3-point line until he got sick and lazy and started running under them the back half of the year. He did a great job defending Gilyard in our win against Richmond when he was a freshman (2-10 that game). He can play defense. It's all about being consistent, which was a huge problem with a lot of our players last year.
