Nice to see they filled the roster for once. Now we’re possibly in a weird spot though with paulsen. Can’t really have high expectations for this squad next year, 4 freshmen and sophomore at center. But there might finally be a solid group to build around. Problem is it is year 6.

What’s the bar for retaining paulsen at this point? If this class shows enough and makes it seem like he’s turned a corner on recruiting does he get extended even with what’s likely to be another sub .500 conference record?

Why are we finishing below .500? The A-10 isn’t going to be that great next season ... 10-8 is not an unreasonable expectation even without Kier

LOL

I'd bet right now we aren't above .500 in league play next season

No point in being overly negative right now. The situation is what it is. We succeed, Paulsen most likely stays, we don’t, hes most likely gone. There’s a point in every offseason where I become optimistic. It gets shutdown eventually, but for now, I see no reason to continually bash current players. Hopefully they are all working, and the staff understands exactly what is at stake. Message board opinions don’t matter anymore (not that they ever do). The roster is what it is, it’s time for the staff to do their jobs... it’s win or go-home.

That sounds right. We have question marks, some big ones, that no one can answer until we see the games.

I still think Calixte has upside potential. The dude is built and athletic. He just seems to
not thave much court awareness. Once in a while he makes some really good moves. I think, maybe I'm way off, he needs some better coaching. If he just concentrates on boxing out and grabbing rebounds, ten per game, his offense would be tolerable. I'm saying he can be much better next year. Kind of like what AJ has done.

30 players in America averaged 10 rebounds a game last year in Division 1.

You are saying "if he were among the top 1% of rebounders in the country, his offense would be tolerable"

I think the problem with Calixte is that when he’s in the game the offense needs to change to help him but it doesn’t. So instead of running the pick and roll with him, or having him get the ball in the high post (or god forbid out at the 3 point line) he really should be planted in the low post rolling from the right block to the left block and back again. We should be able to play this way with AJ or even Miller playing a high-low game with him but we don’t set up that way.

This! Some people have no clue when it comes to stats and how they stack up nationwide. Who was the last Mason player to average 10 or more boards a game.....Kenny Sanders? I know Will Thomas was close his senior year.

This is the #1 reason why I can't stand Paulsen's offensive sets and have little confidence in his X's and O's. Hopefully things will look different this year.

Pretty sure Shevon did, right? And Marquise Moore? But I agree with your point.

Better recruit in your opinion. Which, with all due respect, means jack since the kid has yet to play one second of college basketball.

Nobody is perfect in recruiting but I’ll take our staff’s evaluations over yours, mine and every other poster’s.
Professional scouts are the one who ranked him a four-star.

Professional scouts LOL. You literally know nothing about the people who rate HS basketball players. 99.9% of them are the furthest thing from “professional” talent evaluators.

Adam Zagoria's opinion doesn't count? this is where you talk out of both sides of your mouth again. The head of USA Today high school hoops opinion on this kid doesn't count either? The basketball writers and coaches of New Jersey's opinions don't count? LMAO you say the exact opposite when some dude on Twitter with 4k followers says we get a steal for Otis yesterday lol

Try to follow along. I’m a fan, short for fanatic. Of course I hope the team I follow got a great recruit yesterday. The key word being HOPE. You should hope so too, except it’s apparently more important to you to rack up offseason bragging rights by signing players with a certain number of “stars” next to their names.

Do I think Marcus Helton or Adam Zagoria or any of these other “professional” recruiting analysts have any special insight into which HS basketball players will succeed and fail? Of course not.

If they did, they’d be coaching instead of putting together BS rankings that mean less than nothing outside the top 25-50 that even a dumb-dumb like DJ3 can see are the elite of the elite.

I can't even keep up with your flip flopping anymore. Kolek is going to be amazing for Mason since he is top 14 in New England rankings next year from a site that is reputable(your words). Otis is going to be a great addition because of some dude with 4k Twitter followers opinion (your words) but it never works like that for other A10 teams or even teams in lower conferences that get bragging rights from National Pundits... Farrakhan is also top 50 so your point on him is moot as well.

Duquesne just signed a big man ready for A10 play next year that committed to them over some great teams (where scholarship offers actually existed) and it doesn't matter because these whole fictional "stars".

The Duquesne kid also played for the real Compton Magic team not the lower team like Otis and Hartwell did..

Congrats sleeper, you win the award for being more negative about your own team and its players and coaches. Hope it keeps you warm at night because I’m done with this.

just pick a side.. first we can't get better recruits because of our facilities, fans, location (everything but the fact Paulsen kinda blows as a coach).. Then because other equal or lesser teams do snag good players the player rankings don't matter. You should become a chief of staff for a politician with tons of issues because you sure spin things well.
