Yeah because the demographic makeup of the soccer and basketball teams are exactly the same.

I'm not sure what demographics have to do with the qualities you want in a coach in any sport. But, I do like the idea of hiring someone who has been involved in developing successful programs. I don't know whether Mason could hire the associate head coach at UVA, but he would certainly be on my list if he were interested - https://virginiasports.com/sports/mbball/roster/season/2020-21/coach/jason-williford/.

Only you would question my point about demographics and then suggest we hire a 47-year-old Black coach.

It's not a question of race.
is it fair that I can agree with both of you?!?!?!? I agree with Jim and tblack's point regarding apples to oranges regarding mens soccer which makes 1/1000th of money for a school as a basketball program and has recruits from completely different demos as college basketball.

Also agree it isn't necessarily about race... new coach has to be under 40 IMO, white, black, latino, native american I don't care... these old world coaches are hemorrhaging right now... Recruiting has changed, game play has changed... and some schools have 45 year old coaches who coach and recruit like they are 85 (DP).... we need a young fresh mind in that can recruit but most importantly have some degree of adaptability. If you recruit a certain roster that is best for running and fast paced yet you continue to have them set up a non existent/non effective half court set you will probably suck when playing a team with any talent.... GIVING DAY 2023
Does anyone know if Brions was able to stream the first few games? Wouldn’t mind going to watch a game there once we get started back up, not sure if they figured out the ESPN+ thing or not though.

Brion's can't/won't do ESPN+ or ESPN3 because they are required to pay the fee for every seat in the restaurant which would cost them too much, at least that is what I have been told by staff. They have Cox so the Big10 Network, regular ESPN, etc., they do have.

Do they have a connector that I can set my laptop up to to connect to a tv we can all watch off of?

It's not a question of race.

So you think it’s a coincidence that the three assistant coaches for our lone money-making sport, one in which 85% of the talent pool is comprised of young Black men, are also either young or relatively young Black men?

I’ve never suggested it’s ALL about race — you have to be able to coach to some extent — but I fail to see how it could be anything but an advantage to have a head coach who can relate easily to the kids he’s trying to recruit.

We will have to agree to disagree on this. And, I believe that many of Coach L's current and former players would also disagree with you. So, I'll just end this discussion by providing what Michael Jordan released upon Dean Smith's passing:

"Other than my parents, no one had a bigger influence on my life than Coach Smith. He was more than a coach - he was my mentor, my teacher, my second father.

Coach was always there for me whenever I needed him and I loved him for it. In teaching me the game of basketball, he taught me about life.

My heart goes out to Linnea and their kids. We've lost a great man who had an incredible impact on his players, his staff and the entire UNC family."

I truly think Paulsen is a great guy character wise... getting someone with a high character should absolutely be a pre requisite. But that person should also be able to connect to the kids more, actually coach and actually recruit to the level of succeeding in the conference

"Duquesne will get back on the court after its COVID-19-related shutdown for at least two more non-conference game before beginning Atlantic-10 play, Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned.

Duquesne will face Southern Illinois and Loyola-Chicago in a pair of neutral-court games in Indianapolis. They’re scheduled to meet SIU on Monday, Dec. 14 and Loyola on Wednesday, Dec. 16."

Run a clean program and compete consistently for NCAA bids. It’s really not too much to expect.

To Pablo's point: Chris Mooney is an old white guy, so is Keith Dambrot, Bob McKillop, Mark Schmidt, and Mike Rhoades (caveat: is we are considering mid-late 40s "old" right now).

To everyone else's point: there is inherent risk in any new hire. Someone who is successful one place may not be here, but I think if we're going to take a swing and a miss, it makes more sense right now to swing and miss on a young assistant than it would be on an entrenched older coach of a smaller conference school.
