2019 Recruiting

GIVING DAY 2023
the only thing I am talking about here is Paulsen is not a good coach man. simple as that. We need to try and recruit more "ready to succeed" players because Paulsen consistently puts our less skilled recruits in losing scenarios (i.e horrible offensive game planning that doesn't work, bad defense for our players skill sets, horrible inbounds plays, players are horrible first 10 mins of the game most of the time because they don't seem prepared at all) I mean come on. what more do we need to see? We might win 10 in the A-10 again next year but we are going to fall below Richmond, Duquesne, SLU and URI. does that make you happy?

I continue to be amazed at our posters’ ability to predict the future a year before it happens.

Now that I know we’re gonna suck next season, I don’t have to bother actually watching the games.

Thanks y’all.

You're probably right man... mason hoops in general is too much flowers and candy.... Hewitt really f'd our fanbase up.... We need less Swimoms and people that tweet at players how much they love them and more people who want to hold Paulsen accountable for being a piss poor coach.
Losing every recruiting battle (except Mar really),
signing kids that are the 8th best player on their high school team to try and open a pipe line that is filled with kids who won't even take an OV to Mason
Running the same damn plays for 3 years when obviously they don't work (our offense is so much better when they don't run a set offense)
Inbounds plays (enough said)
Setting unrealistic expectations over and over again and then copping "oopsies" once he fails
Having 75% of a fan base that still thinks basketball should be played shooting layups on peach baskets and that everyone should be silent in EBA
Ticket office screwing up season tickets my group has had for 4 years because half of them are complete idiots
The entire campus is filled with yes men and women..

I follow and support a loser program. It is tough realizing that sometimes.. Yea we aren't Fordham or GW (they would probably have been an elite program if Lonergan wasn't an a**hole and their AD wasn't grabbing players asses) but sheesh the last 8 years have been completely unacceptable for such a talent rich environment we have in NOVA.. I am not expecting sell out crowds (we are the 20th best show in town some nights) but at least put a competitive product on the court and that starts in the AD and coaching...

I will check back in after summer as this board has too many fairies, sunshine and rainbows for the dark state of this program
Agree but I think people just are holding out some hope and I can't blame them for that. Going through life pepretually angry rarely solves anything even if the situation is terrible as you say it is (which I mostly agree it is).

It’s hard to take him seriously when he says things that no one thinks our assistant coaches are any good and then one of them gets hired to be a head coach like two weeks later.

Or saying we use the same plays three years in a row when our offense looked a lot different when Jalen and Marquise were in the lineup than it did last year with Otis, Kier, and Greene in the back court.

To be fair, Luke had more talent around him than Otis and Quise did.

I feel you man, I'm not sold on DP either.

Besides Jim, No one here has said Paulsen is without faults.

But man... you seem to jump all over anyone who says anyting less than Paulsen is Hitler.

I don't know that Jim has said that, I think he takes the roll of consistently defending him against the broken record trolls and then get labeled that. Otherwise, I think this is a fair statement.

The program is clean, kids graduate, and there's been steady improvement from the toxic waste dump that Hewitt left behind. The latest performance was slightly above average and not the upper tier that we'd hoped for but also significantly improved and that's hard for any reasonable person to argue against.

The recruiting battles we've won have been over CAA & Patriots league teams too often and not the power conferences which is disappointing but also somewhat understandable given the recent state of the program. We'd all like to see that improve and if that can be done, I think given Paulsen's coaching acumen we'd see a program consistently competing for NCAA bids.

If true about the hip, I hope everyone that shit on him throughout the year feels a little remorse. Not just on these boards but in my section at EBA, our own fans were continuously booing him. Even though they look like grown a** giant men, its hard to forget that these are still kids with feelings.

The way he runs it definitely looked like something was wrong. Hip injuries are no joke. He probably played through pain while giving his all only to eventually get bashed on by his own fans and ultimately missing out on a National Championship Ring because he wanted to continue to play the game he loves.

I like his game, but it was obvious he was struggling mightily from a physical perspective. The way some of the folks on these boards bashed him is embarrassing. From a basketball IQ stand point he's light years ahead of the roster.

Thank you for keeping it real around here.

I'd be happy if we won recruiting battles over other A-10 teams...currently we aren't doing that and it really hampers the progress. I'm with you about Paulsen running a clean program with good kids...now hopefully he can start bringing in good kids with a higher ceiling. If he doesn't get that part figured out I guess we are in for another rebuild in a couple years.

Sounds like a good old showdown in NY ...DP vs McCall.....they should make recruiting an event. Coach vs Coach...televised...sell tickets.

Kind of seems like we are going after a guard and a forward. 2 guys leaving perhaps.
