2019 Recruiting

You guys are generally right about centers but we also recruited Wahab from Flint Hill hard for a while--and he's a true center.

vcu and Rhode Island are in his Final 12...we should get to the point where we're at least considered for guys like him.

Wahab is a unique case because he was flying so far below the radar until the past year. Even if he wouldn’t have been a perfect fit for what we do, you don’t pass on a 6-11 kid who can run the floor, block shots and rebound and still has a ton of upside to his game.

Alas, he’s probably gonna wind up in the ACC, like most 6-11 guys who are coordinated to do more than walk and chew gum at the same time.

Nailed it on the head. Don't why some in the fan base, after watching his style for four years, still don't grasp this concept.

I agree Mason doesnt need a "true center", but Mason has lacked depth down low. So I get excited when Mason looks at post players.

Imagine if the 2016-17 team had a back up for Jenkins. I think they would have took down vcu in the A10 tourny.

If I remember that game correctly, it was the back court for vcu going off and raining down 3s on us in the second half (and of course it was guys who hadn't been known for shooting 3s who were doing it -- Doug Brooks and De'Riante Jenkins -- the vcu special). Justin Tillman and Mo Allie-Cox were held to 7 and 0 points respectively in that game. Grayer and Moore also had 9 turnover between the two of them. The game plan to stop the Tillman/Allie-Cox machine was much better in the tournament than it was during the regular season. Maybe if we didn't have to rely on Grayer and Kier to play post defense things might have been different, but I don't know.

Depth in the front court shouldn't be a problem for this team over the next two seasons. We will be losing 4 really, really, really important guards, though, so hopefully guys like JDS, Greene, Hartwell, and Miller are ready to step in once our juniors and seniors graduate.

My memory is fuzzy now, but I remember Mason was in the lead and Jenkins was having a pretty good game.

The offense was running through Jenkins, and vcu started their 18-2 run when Jenkins was getting a breather.

But you are right, it’s going to be really hard to replace our guards. Big shoes to fill.

Duval simmonds, coach and mentor of qudus wahab, has another 6'11 2019 center in his stable. Dude grew from 6'7 to 6'11 in the las 18 months. He will be playing alongside qudus wahab at flint hill this season. Just started to play competitive basketball at 16.

His name is Noel brown. Ayalew tbinks he is going to be a very nice prospect.

I would like to see Paulsen offer him now before he blows up as a late bloomer in the spring.

Sounds like a guy your vcu Rams should target after they strike out on Wahab and all the other high targets they are chasing.

Just putting it out there now: if the staff is able to sign R.J. Blakney, look out because we are going to rip the new roof off EBA over the next few years.

That kid is a flat-out stud and vastly underrecruited at this point. For selfish reasons, I hope he stays that way.

Sold, I want him. Looks like his list includes some other A-10 schools, GW, St. Bonaventure, St. Joes, and GW.

Here’s a pretty drunk.

At 6-5, Blakney is a perfect fit to slide into Grayer’s SF spot ... not as good a shooter (yet), but insanely explosive and athletic.

Hope the staff is selling him on the fact that we have immediate minutes available on a team that will be very good for the foreseeable future.

No. The fanbase on that forum would dismiss him. They would think his offer sheet is below vcu.

I argue with them all the time that a prospect can't be judged soley on offer sheet. They say different.

It is like talking to a bunch of brick walls.

Tyler Bertram reclassified into the 2018 class and committed to UNC Charlotte.

The list of our reported PG targets is starting to tighten up.
