2018 Recruiting

I don't know if it exactly fits in this situation, but I was wondering if Natalie Butler might ever come up in recruiting when we are trying to recruit against a Power 5 team?

Do you want to to go to a place where minutes are tough to come by, or play right away and break NCAA records?

Isn’t he coming this weekend? Hope he likes cold weather with a bit of snow coming from SoCal.
Next weekend. Could be sunny and 70 by then.

For the men’s team? I don’t think it fits. The difference between UConn and Mason for women’s basketball is far different than P-5 to Mason’s men’s team. Also, Butler didn’t come as a freshman. She played for the best coach and program in the history of the women’s game. So the pitch would be more like, “go learn for 3 years under coach K and then . . .”.

I think someone posted the recruiting pitch earlier that I would use. Something along the lines of, “look how much better our players get under Coach Paulsen. How much they like playing for him. We are on the rise and will be back to prominence soon. Come help us get there. Come play where you can be the BMOC on the campus of a school that enrolls 30,000 students. Come play in the shadow of D.C. where scouts will notice you if you excel.”

Again, our staff knows what they are doing. Tennessee and Missouri are late to the party.

Doesn’t mean Jamal definitely will end up a Patriot, but at least we’re getting him on campus where he can talk to Otis and get a glimpse at his future.

We still in for Harris? Or is there a chance he ends up back at URI if Adams decides to follow Hurley?

Tweet from Compton Magic

“Jamal Hartwell @FairfaxBBall picking up Steam with Tennessee, Missouri, George Mason, UTEP, Boise State, Utah, Drexel and Hofstra all in the Mix @jamalhartwelljr headed to visit George Mason next week”

I guess they haven't heard about his height yet.

Don’t do it Burton! You look terrible in that ugly jersey. We beat them 3 times and they already have a PG coming in.

But really, I haven’t been holding my breath for him nor Harris recently. Don’t know if the staff is out on these guys, but I haven’t heard much encouraging news about their recruitment lately.

I think our staff is scared of some of these recruits' mommas! Seriously, if we can't land guys like this we will always be looking up in the conf standings. Other than Mar, it sure does suck getting dissed by kids with 3 stars.

I mean, it remains to be seen how JDS and Miller fit in and what their ceilings are going to be going forward in terms of their potential development, but I'm pretty satisfied from what we've seen with all of our last two recruiting classes (those that stuck around anyway) -- Kier, Boyd, AJ, Mar, Greene, and Calixte have all shown they can compete at the level necessary to succeed in the A10.

I'd also rather have a team built as a cohesive unit rather than a collection of some really talented players who can't play together.

ps: I'm also pretty confident that we're going to like what both Miller and JDS will bring to the table in the years to come.

Also, Burton isn't a 3 star rated recruit from anybody. Jamal Hartwell, however, (the guy we have coming in) is.

I look at what other schools have offered the kids, not so much how many stars they have. While Hartwell does have 3 stars from ESPN his offer list is pretty slim while Burton maybe doesn't have a 3 star rating his offer list is much more impressive. That being said I trust our staff to fill these last 2 spots with who they think is the best prospect/fit for Mason.

I've always wondered bc Bennett at Uva does same thing. Gets under radar guys, develops them and they have success. When thinking into the future and the constants of each team that makes runs in Ncaa Tourney, you see that older players, with great coaching, can go far. Umbc changed their style I believe vs Uva. Would DP do the same if faced with a Goliath?

It'd be awesome to get a visit from Burton, and it's a tad disconcerting that there hasn't been much reported momentum with regard to him, however that could change at any moment. Ultimately not getting a visit, and having him commit to a place like UMass would be pretty disappointing.

.

Obviously everyone wants cohesiveness. But it’s hard to build cohesiveness with any talent level. So why not go after the higher-level talent.

Are you assuming those with a lower ranking are more humble; therefore, it is easier to build a team? Anyone who earns a D1 scholarship was the Man in high school. Most athletes will tell you it is a real shock going to college and learning all your high school accolades mean nothing.
