What's truly amazing is that of all the quality players MVHS spawns that it is JDS who now owns the single game scoring record. :oface:

Can't wait to see this guy clad in Green 'n Gold!

Starting to think we aren't going to land this kid. I know someone posted here that Brad said the staff was afraid of losing him with his great play this year and these headlines don't help.

Not saying it couldn’t happen — given how unethical recruiting is these days, I’m sure other coaches are still coming after him — but Jason seemed to have a very solid thought process for why he decided to sign his LOI with Mason.

If he was only interested in landing the highest possible offer, he could’ve waited until the spring to sign. He knew he was going to be in position to put up huge numbers and be in the headlines throughout his senior season.

Based solely on reading his published comments, he sees an opportunity to have a major role right away as a knock-down 3-point shooter. Looking at the composition of our roster, I’d have to agree.

Once you sign and the coach stays in his job it is tough to leave. People need to stop bringing this up because football BRAD brought this up.

Non-issue!!!

I thought I read somewhere that JDS's parents are all in for their son to go Mason. They liked his choice. I don't think JDS splits. How often does that happen anyway without a coaching change in the mix?

I was also part of the conversation at Brions with Brad a few weeks ago. Relax. His comments on JDS didn't have me worried in the least.

The question to Brad was something like ..."if JDS is doing this well do you worry he could go elsewhere."

To which he answered something like - "you always worry about that".

Seemed like an innocent political answer.

Damn, Scott! Way to kill a good conversation—telling it like it is and all that!

MASONScott and I had the opportunity to see Jordan Miller play tonight against my son's high school team (Dominion). Jordan definitely looks the part being 6-5, athletic and with a nice lefty stroke, but I think we caught him on a quiet night. Even though he is very much a team-oriented player, always looking to get his teammates involved, he still managed to score 16-18 points.

You can tell he has the talent to easily score 30 points a game, but is very unselfish and is more concerned about his team getting the win than padding his own stats. I really like that about him. My hunch is that he will have to learn to be more aggressive at the college level (and add some strength), and that it probably wouldn't be the worst thing if he redshirted next year with a log jam for minutes in our backcourt. Either way, I feel confident in saying he will be a very good player for Mason over the next four years.

Tom,
From what you could tell, by 'very good player for Mason' do you mean Rob Anderson good, or Erik Herring good?

It's honestly impossible to project at this point, especially since I only saw him one game. He did show some nice versatility by following a 3-pointer from the top of the key with a drive down the middle and two-handed dunk. I did think it was funny when he missed his first few shots and the Dominion students started chanting "overrated." To me, that's one of the biggest compliments a heralded player can receive.

I'd take another Kier 10 days out of 10. Seems like he has more scoring ability, but those intangibles you mentioned are so critical to a team's success.

Always tough to predict how players turn out till they get on the court. Look at Makan Konate. He killed a f***** lion prior to arriving at Mason. A LION.

He should have been our Dennis Rodman at minimum. But alas.......

It was nice to see both recruits hit major milestones last week for their teams - while JD-S was breaking the single game scoring record which has been mentioned, JM broke his school's all time scoring record.

Congrats to both of them. I wonder how much, if any, the two of them have talked since both committing?

Last year he averaged nearly .39% from three point land.

This year, he is shooting .091% from three and still scoring scoring 11 points a game.

If he could get to at least .30% from three point range (or hell at least .25.%), his versatility and output could shoot up significantly. The two 3's he hit last game were badly needed for his confidence from beyond the arc.
