at some schools some players are taken off Athletic scholarships and given academic ones instead,
to stretch the limited scholarship money;
or split a whole scholarship between academic and athletic;
or split a whole athletic scholarship between multiple sports

All will suit up. It is a head-count sport. Only 13 individuals can receive athletically related aid. Full rides are not a mandate, but they are the norm.

There are no “split” scholarships in football and basketball.

We have 12 full scholarship players, one open scholarship and four
walk-ons.

I assume that is a GMU thing as I know of athletes who have received 1/2 football and 1/2 track, basketball or baseball at at least one other school.
Those partial scholarships are key in non revenue sports like women's softball and track and field where the scholarship limit is much less than the number of athletes needed to field a competitive team.

I know the non-revenue sports chop up scholarships in order to give a little money to as many athletes as possible, but I’ve never heard of anyone doing that in football or basketball.

I know in DI you can not have a split scholarship for track and football. If an athlete does both, second they step on the football field it is converted to a football scholarship (prevents football teams from exceeding max scholarships by having them be on track scholarship).

It happens often at the sub Power 5 level, especially in football. COA is an example of scholarship aid some schools do not award.

There is a difference between what is carried on the books - from a legal/NCAA point of view; and what happens in real life. There are athletes participating in more than one sport and having a scholarship to cover it. Consider 2 athletes each participating on the football and track teams. One may officially have a football scholarship and the other may officially have a track scholarship; but each understands that they are there and expected to play both sports, and the coaches and AD know that. Should either arbitrarily decide not to play a sport without concurrence from the AD and/or coaching staff there will be a scholarship availability issue.

Speaking of size, I thought that Javon looked bigger from the open practice last week. This pic confirms his growth spurt. Look at him standing in between Jordan Miller (6'6") and JDS (6'2"). Javon must be around 6'4" now. He was listed at 6'1" last year.

I like seeing us in the conversation, too, it's just weird that the A-10 is considered a mid-major conference, since it's routinely a multi-bid conference with at least one team in the top 25 most seasons, and more than half of the conference spends a lot more on basketball than the average mid-major team.

So rothstein put his favorite schools above mason. URI lost a huge senior class and their coach, but somehow places 4th. St Joe’s hasn’t been able to stay healthy in recent years but they place third. St Louis has a bunch of transfers being eligible and hype, they get first. Okay.

He did put mason the highest he ever has (he probably put mason at like 9th last year). But I think he probably should have projected us closer to 3rd or 4th which is where I think they’ll be preseason. Fine by me.

This all plays perfectly for G Mas. Allow the know nothings to predict an average season in the league, overall, etc. When it's all said and done it will be decided on the court. It's all there now. The league is up for grabs, talented roster, disrespect, etc. The time is now. No excuses.
