Did you forget they hired prositutes to lure incoming freshman to their program, the same year Hancock transfered.

Also Hancock scored 11 points on average on a top 25 team as a sophomore. Played lights out against Villanova. It was pretty obvious he was going to blossom into a really good player

But again I don't believe this. Just like I don't believe any conspiracy. I just find them interesting

I hate having unfilled scholarships. I don't want to sign players that aren't A10 caliber players, but I would rather take a chance on a 1 year grad player who will open the scholarship the next year then to just not use it.
I agree 100%. Use at least 1 scholarship for a grad transfer big and keep recruiting for that scholarship for 2018. Also, as Coach P has said many times - it is important to have enough skilled guys on the team to create competition in practice/ run the scout team.

Why? We have no seniors next year. Otis, Grayer, Newman, Boyd, Mar, Greene, Wilson, Relvao, and Kier will most likely all be in the rotation next year. Add one player this offseason and save the other two. You need to fill space on the bench because? Why not have a freshmen class the next season instead?

If you sign a grad transfer you get to fill the spot for one year with somebody ready to play and still have it open for the 2018 class.

It is literally the best of both worlds for our situation.

We have three schollies though. I think getting three grad transfers is a big ask. Best case we get a JUCO big, a grad transfer SG and hold one for 2018. (unless we can land a late decommit like a Moore or a late signer like Sherrod then I'm all for burning the last scholarship). That's 12 scholarship players. Should be plenty for contingencies.

We're way more likely to get a grad transfer big than a JUCO. We need someone to come in and start right away and most JUCOs need a year to get acclimated.

There are going to be a ton of grad transfer bigs available. I'm confident Dave will sign a good one.

Then maybe we get the SG from Minnesota to fill out the 2017 class and hold the third scholarship so we have two for 2018.

Either way works for me.

I don't think anyone is saying to use all three on grad transfers, but there is no benefit in holding a scholarship until 2018 over giving it to a grad transfer... none. In both scenarios the scholarship becomes available in 2018, but with the grad transfer we get, at worst, a body to practice next season. Best case we get someone that can give us some meaningful minutes.

I don't understand the thinking of not using a scholarship. It's like getting a $100 gift card, going to the store and buying something for $60, and throwing the gift card away after.

I still believe all we need is a juco 5 and we're good, use the other two for 2018 and balance out the roster. Hopefully Relvao's knees will be 100% going into next year and we'll need a backup for him. The 4 will be Temera, Mar and Wilson. Then all the guards for the 1, 2 and 3.

Actually, can we keep 1 or 2 schollies for a grad transfer EVERY year? With Mason's connections in DC for internships/jobs, imagine how many players, smart players, we could get. A rotating door of bigs if you will. There's gotta be some corn boys out there that would love an intership at the USDA?

You know...that's actually an interesting idea. Have it be Masons version of the old Nebraska walkon program. "Mason is known for always having ultra experienced bigs". I don't know how/if it would work, but it's a fun thought experiment.

News of transfers from around the A-10 is starting to spread. Christian Sengfelder from Fordham, Kevin Marfo from GW, Zeke Moore from SLU to name a few. I imagine we will know soon enough who is leaving and won't have to keep speculating.

Along those lines, does anyone know how the A-10 handles restricting transfers within the conference? Is it a conference rule or left up to the individual schools to grant permission?
So is Sengfelder looking to transfer up? He had a good JR season.

Pretty sure no one can transfer within conference in any conference.

I would assume Sengfelder will "up-transfer". I don't think he would have interest in us, and I didn't intend to infer that. I was just curious about the rules.

Looks like nothing expressly forbids a transfer within the same conference, but the previous school has to give written permission for a D1 athlete to transfer to another D1 school and be on scholarship in the first year following transfer. Although, the athlete may appeal any decision to deny written permission. I doubt they would win an appeal within the same conference though. Here's the NCAA transfer handbook if anyone is curious: http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/TGONLINE2010.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=31600

I don't know about the A10, but the CAA certainly allowed in-conference transfers with a one-season layoff.

Wasn't it during the early Westhead years that sophomore Riley Trone transferred to JMU? I remember the big boooooos a year later when his name was announced at his first game back in the Patriot Center wearing a purple uniform. Then he just disappeared...

It seems really late in the recruiting cycle. Does anyone have an idea of when Paulsen's
prospects will make a decision.
