I always worry about splayfooted guys with ankle/knee/foot injuries, but he's big and skilled, and that' goes a long way.

Lull moves awfully well for a kid with size 18 feet, that's for sure.

Given his size, I'm surprised his offer list isn't more impressive. Legit 7-footers who can walk and chew gum at the same time don't grow on trees.

Henrico (Va.) G De'Monte Buckingham off the board to Richmond.

I don't know whether we offered him or not, but I know there was definite interest.

Good for UR. bad for vcu.

Lot of activity in the past week. I'm guessing it's a result of not having been at the program for very long, and not having had a chance to build connections with local programs/players, but Paulsen talked a lot about the local recruiting footprint. He seems to be casting a pretty wide geographic net, with that said.

The depth of talent wasn't that great in the DMV in the 2014 and '15 classes, which is likely one reason why Hewitt spent so much time bringing in guys from outside the area.

That is starting to change. The local crop for 2016 is strong in the 2- and 3-star range -- two of our top targets are Dowtin from St. John's and Adams from O'Connell -- but the staff has been playing catch-up on the relationship-building front with a lot of those kids. At this point, I think the approach is "cast a wide net" and hope you wind up with 4 or 5 kids who will be long-term contributors.

The timing is less than optimal, having 6 scholarships to fill in one class. Hopefully the allure of immediate playing time will sway some great kids to come and build something at Mason.

Andre Cornelius?

Andre Cornelius?

Totally different player, Joe.

Cornelius was a scoring PG with a terrific jumper. Boyd is an uber athlete who, at 6-2, plays way above the rim. There's an awesome video out there of him dunking all over a guy at an AAU event this month.

Not that it matters one way or the other, obviously, but Boyd is one of my favorite recruits that Mason has offered in the 2016 class. I love the guys who get overlooked for one reason or another. They almost always play with an enormous chip on their shoulder.

Is he overlooked, or do schools expect him to play football?

Crap, that's what I get for not reading the entire post. My bad.

Hey, I personally loved your analysis and comparison of the two players. Sounds like Boyd would be a great get for us.
