He lives down the street from Richmond and is a 3pt shooter, he was bound for vcu.
PJ Hairston, Rashad McCants and others do not agree with you re UNC.
My cousin went to LC Bird so I know the academics at Bird are not that strong, especially since they have been on the decline over the past 10 years. A lot has happened in the Southside of Richmond in the past 10 years.
Bird isn't that great academically and neither is Meadowbrook, but both are Chesterfield County schools. That means they're still better than any of the city high schools.
Point being, academics wasn't the deciding factor for Kenny. He wanted his family and friends to be able to watch him play and vcu is a top-15/20 program. Not sure why it's surprising to anyone that he made the choice he did.
Calling vcu a top 15 program if over egging the pudding a bit. Bu that doesn't really matter. Good get for them, wish we could convince more local talent to come to Fairfax.
Top 15-20, don't see how that's much of a stretch.
Have they performed like it in the tournament since 2011? Nope.
But it's really not surprising anymore for Richmond kids to stay home -- they seem to love playing for Shaka, their families can watch them play most games without having to get on a plane and they go to the tournament every year.
If we ever have a similar package to sell, more elite local recruits will come to Mason. While some kids need to get away for a variety of reasons, there's a lot to be said for staying home.
Mark Matthews committed to UNCW. We need to get a white player on the team that's where we are messing up. We need the fundamentals
