I know nothing at this point, and it's not for lack of trying. All of my old, reliable contacts are in Coral Gables.

I know nothing at this point...

But you're a nice guy, so at least you have that going for you.

My sources sadly know nothing either (Edwards has been playing this close to the vest), but hopefully we hear something soon.

Preferred Walk-On
ESPN reporting that Michigan State asst Jeff Meyer is a candidate for the Liberty gig. If that's your cup of tea, you do you.

CLP

Preferred Walk-On
ESPN reports on DePaul candidates:
  • Bobby Hurley
  • Ty Corbin
  • Bryce Drew
  • Ben Howland

CLP

Preferred Walk-On
Marc Stein reporting that Fred Hoiberg is the top candidate to replace Tom Thibodeau if the Bulls let him go in the off-season. Would be an interesting opening to add to the list.

Goodman from espn tweeted Ben Howland has emerged as the frontrunner and is in discussions to take the Mississippi State job, sources told ESPN.

My top 5 list of current head coaches (as of Sunday morning because it changes daily/hourly):

Toole, Masiello, Hurley, Cherry, and Wade.

Got to give Edwards credit for how close to the vest this search is... but it sucks for us not knowing anything!

Masiello looks less shady with a beard. Maybe I should reconsider my opposition to him - not that my opposition amounts to a hill of beans.

Starkville Mississippi is the last place Howland would want to live.

Except that he wants back in now...and the unfortunate collective wisdom says its the best job out there.

I disagree..but the group think of big time hoops says it is...

I am not so sure. If Edwards plays his cards right he could sell Howland on the story that he could rebuild a program in a great media market and be left alone to work his magic without too much interference that he might get at another program . He will be near a major metropolitan area with great restaurants, locales, booze and people in power. You could sell the Mason job as being far superior than Mississippi State.

Miss State pays the lowest in the SEC for a basketball coach. The going rate for a new SEC coach is around $1.5M. Ray was getting $250 base. His contract must have been heavy on incentives.

All true. But we're not on the basketball radar right now no matter what we think. Im hearing we are living with the cheap, lackluster image in the coaching ranks that Merten et al left us with.

But MState is already having dialogue with Howland and its being reported. Tho Edwards is playing this one close....my gut says Howland wasn't even on Edward's radar, or there might have been something leaked out there.

With that...were totally going with a coach from a lower school, and by certain reports we are moving slowly...probably will get a rising assistant...
