Jeff Goodman saying Will Brown is possible replacement at Fordham. What the hell would he want to go there? That much of an upgrade over Albany?

While that's a whole reconstruction project compared to Mason, I have to think the selling points of Fordham (being in NYC, big market, etc) have advantages.

Lamar Butler, again, feeling bad for Pecora this time. What is up with him feeling sorry for fired coaches. Is on hormone meds?

All depends on how you look at it.

Fordham was paying Pecora $750K ... even with NYC cost of living, that's good dough. Gotta imagine it would be a significant bump from what Albany can afford.

It's also a jump from a one-bid league into the 7th-best basketball conference in America.

Winning has to be a consideration. Brown already has won big at Albany ... recent history says that will be difficult to damn near impossible at Fordham.

But given the ego most coaches possess, Brown probably believes he is capable of succeeding where others have failed. I could certainly see him taking that job.

Lamar is a big "coach can only show you the door" kind of guy, which I get. Lamar had a great work ethic.

But what if it isn't the right door? What if he shows it to you and you have second thoughts about going through it? What if he kicks you through the door into another dimension?

There's a lot at play, obviously it's 50/50, but these guys aren't pros. They don't necessarily have the ability to develop themselves, otherwise they'd be obvious one-and-dones. I think a good coach is a guy who makes you want to succeed, not just one who makes you able to.

Fordham has some nice pieces coming back AND Ryan Canty returns for them, you know, the guy who torched us for about 100 rebounds in the 2014 A-10 tourny. Fordham could be a surprise next year.

They are the Cleveland Indians with Lou Brown at the Helm. They are no longer shitty.

Unfortunately we have claimed the doormat of the A-10 title for the past 2 years

DePaul is a Big East school and can recruit the Chicago market - I'm not so sure it isn't a better job than Alabama based on potential.

Maybe it's just because Mason has never beat them, but it seems to me that Fordham has more to lose than Mason in letting their coach go. Seems like they do have a good foundation, it's be tough to lose any of their good young players.

On the other hand, Pecora has been given plenty of time.

So what you you're saying is ...they just need a new /good coach.

Sounds familiar........

Issue with DePaul is that they get out-recruited in their own backyard by other conference foes. And no current recruits recall (or were alive) for the glory days under the Meyers. It's just become a coaching graveyard for the past 15-20 years.

Similar talent there as in DMV. Yet we aren't getting any of the cream.

True, but does a guy of the stature of a Ben Howland turn that around? If a local kid wants to stay local, who else are they going to consider?

Consider lifestyle too. A big city guy is going to want to live in Chicago over Tuscaloosa, although your money does go a whole Hell of a lot further in the latter.

Oh, sorry I missed that. I think a guy like Howland could succeed. Given DePaul's recent track record, I think they probably need a big name more than we do in order to get out of the wilderness.

To be brutally honest Mason has more upside than DePaul. We are a larger school with more recent success (despite Hewitt). We are a larger school with a larger campus and a comparable media market with nearby conference rivals. The story that could be written at Mason by Howland would be epic. DePaul...... Meh

Agree DePaul is a coaching graveyard. Mason is two bad hires away from doing the same. AD needs to step up and get a solid coach with solid creds. Howland meets that requirement in my book,
