DePaul looks really stupid with the story getting out that it was Howland's job to turn down. Apparently he did.

Interesting info from hoopdirt.com the past few days (though no new Mason nuggets):
  • ETSU is after Wichita St asst Steve Forbes
  • Northern Kentucky names include Xavier asst Travis Steele and Cincy interim HC Larry Davis
  • Arkansas-Little Rock has looked at BGSU asst Mark Downey, (newly fired) Miss St asst Wes Flanigan, Akransas asst Matt Zimmerman, Tulsa asst Dennis Felton, current Little Rock asst Joe Klein (yes, the former NBA player)
  • Given our discussions on here about Lavelle Moton, apparently Charlotte is also interested. Jeff Capel also getting mentioned.
  • Fordam interested in Bobby Hurley. Fordam also interested in Norfolk State HC Robert Jones.
  • Utah Valley looking at Utah asst Mark Pope and NBA asst/former player Mark Madsen.
  • Kind of a local tidbit - Prince George CC coach Xavier Joyner is leaving PGCC to take over the Nike Team Takeover AAU squad

Steve Forbes will be a good hire for ETSU. Good coach. However, too much baggage for many schools to take a chance on him.

Alabama prepared to pay over $3M to Greg Marshall to lure him away from Wichita State. Hopefully, that happens (hate it for the Shockers) so Prohm can come here. But then maybe WSU gets in on Prohm. WSU pays Marshall close to $2M so I am not sure $3M gets him to Tuscaloosa.

Maybe, but it's still a 50% raise.

and not like Alabama is going to lose their guy over salary.

The University of Alabama recorded $143 million in athletic revenues last year, more than any NHL team and 25 of 30 NBA teams, associate professor Marc Edelman of City University of New York told the Associated Press.

I think we will have to pay at least $700k to get Prohm.

Closer to $1 million and he'd still have to be willing to give us a hometown discount.

If Alabama can't get Marshall -- and why would he leave Wichita? -- they're gonna throw a Brinks truck full of cash at Prohm.

Somebody needs to convince Cabrera to bump fees on all students by $50 per semester, in which case the problem would be almost immediately solved.

That would give us enough to pay off Hewitt and hire Prohm, with a few pesos left for hookers and blow at Mason Madness. We need this done yesterday!

Alabama has Saban and some rich rednecks.

Wichita State has the Koch brothers.

Advantage -- Shockers.

Can we give the state of Alabama to Mexico? Or Cuba?

IF Charles Koch wants Marshall to stay in Wichita then he can make it rain dollars on him like he was a libertarian running for President. Koch might also be convinced to throw some money at Mason athletics as well since he already writes some big checks ($30M) to the Mercatus Center. Who says there can only be one college arena named the Koch Center?
