Which all of this elads us too....DOES MASON HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET A COACH or are we going to settle for the low priced rising assistant?

If your source is correct, KA, why would BBB waste his own time interviewing Prohm if he knew we were gonna have to hire on the cheap? For show?

Why not, even if you think you don't have the funds?. Esp if you think there's a bigger fish about to swallow the same bait.

No once will care Mason had no money, they'll just see Alabama ringing the cash register.

Then you have cover for why you think your next up and comer is a "Home Run."

We might not be as bereft of funds as you might think. We could be competitive.

Playing Devil's advocate, interviewing an A-plus candidate like Prohm but not being able to land him doesn't exactly bolster the BBB meme. Makes him look weak and ineffective.

If Prohm was willing to come talk about the job, I have to believe Edwards thinks we at least have a chance.

Nah. When he interviews at Maryland or other BCS school in a few years, they wont see it that way. The story is "hey one can only do so much...."

If Edwards met with Prohm, it's because he has every intention of bringing him in. Whether we have the money to meet his demands is what remains to be seen. What bothers me is that Prohm left for another interview after meeting with us.

Rather than Edwards allegedly using Prohm as a pawn to appease fans, my hunch is that Prohm could end up using us as leverage to get another job. Even if we had to use waterboarding, we never should have let Prohm leave without signing on the dotted line.

He is an Alabama alum. No way he takes whatever offer is on the table from us before talking with his alma mater. Let's hope Alabama wants someone else.

Unless the interview was scheduled at the other place in advance - otherwise keeping him in a location against his will is a felony. Additionally, Prohm is not going to sign on any line until he has heard from all potential offers. No one signs a contract until he has all the information from all offers.

If Brad played his cards right - he would have sold Prohm on the Mason story and the location and indicate that they (Mason) would make the deal work financially if other offers are there. That way - if Prohm gets another offer he would come back to Brad with a firm number.

Exactly, Walt. Why wouldn't he go straight to his alma mater first? Just doesn't make sense. Sounds like something a Scott Boras client would do. Get an initial offer on the table, then go interview for the job you really want.

Are we sure he got an offer considering BBB knew he was going to interview at Bama?

The fact that Prohm attended Alabama and understands the potential pitfalls might actually work in our favor on this one.

Grant didn't do a horrible job there and now he's unemployed.

What good is money when you spend every waking hour being compared unfavorably to Satan -- uh, I mean Saban -- by a fan base spoiled by its football dominance?

If Prohm comes to Mason, digs us out of the rubble of Hewitt-pocalypse and makes our program nationally relevant again, he'll be in line for a job much more prestigious and lucrative than Alabama.

At least that's the pitch I'd make if I was BBB.

Prohm's base is $300,000. He's not out of Mason's price range. But if Bama wants him, they'll most likely get him.

Otherwise, I don't see why $500,000-$600,000 base with big incentives wouldn't get it done. Mason would be a stepping stone should he be successful, but I'd rather have to deal with that problem as opposed to being the asshole of the A10.

To build on GMUJim's comment - Alabama comes with threats and pitfalls whereas Mason could be close to equal financially with nothing but upside for Prohm with the ability to own the A10 and use that as a stepping stone to another position.

Maybe we just have to throw in a free night with ACW and Big Red in the "candy van" and that gets us over the top?

If reports are correct, Alabama is swinging for the fences with Gregg Marshall. Plus I don't get the feeling that there is a lot of love for Prohm by Bama fans. He would be our big hire. Mason fans would love the hire. Bama fans would think they had to settle. However, money talks and Prohm would get over that real quick for the right price.

I still think we can make a competitive offer because Bama might not offer as much for Prohm as for other candidates. If we can offer $700,000 with incentives Mason becomes attractive.

If we do land him - I would pretty much shit my pants out of sheer joy
