$2.8 million a year is $1.3 million raise for Shaka - a year. That would be hard to turn down even if he assumes he lasts for one contract. Looking at what Barnes was able to parlay that into - how could you say no?

Marshall has done more than Shaka at this point (11 NCAA appearances, NIT championship, an undefeated regular season and number 1 seed in the tournament -- and the big one, he's gotten out of the first weekend post final four, oh and he's had three 30 win seasons in a row at WSU and a lifetime winning percentage of .710).

There are a lot of rumors out there that Billy Donovan can't wait to get out of Florida -- that he will either take an NBA job if offered or go to Kentucky if Calipari goes to the league.

Florida is one of the college jobs that Shaka won't turn down. They offer and he's a goner.

It will be even sweeter if they dodge this bullet, get comfortable that he's staying, then get mollywopped later this month when Shaka takes their big-time recruits with him to Gainesville.

Can't imagine he's doing that. He's already making $1.5M, has gotten vcu to spring for a $25M practice facility, charter flights and cash for assistants.

At some point, there's a limit to what they can do for him financially.

Personally, I hope he stays and his teams continue to choke in the first round of the NCAA tournament. But I guess I could settle for him leaving and their entire program collapsing in his wake...

Yeah. I default to Shaka not leaving. Rumor is Patterson is flying into Richmond tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised to hear tomorrow that Shaka is staying at vcu.

That said, couldn't truly give two damns beyond "it's something to talk about".

I care more about Paulsen getting Mason back into the tourney.
