2015 Coaching Changes Tracker

Texas folks will be flying in Tuesday to RVa.

Shaka has agreed to a talk, but only in Richmond to start.

Comes from a UVa AD person I know, okay related to....

This may be it for the lambs. Texas has more money than anyone knows what to do with a can nearly what quadruple his salary? Its not like a simple doubling....but this is the lottery.

Anthony Grant waits patiently.

As PiKapp says..everyone has a price.

And yet they laughed at me on their boards.....

Dude their list of good coaches who will line up for that job is a mile long.

Top recruiting classes, new $25M facility.

I will give them their due...they built a program. We built a good club team.
On paper it should be easy for them. It is tougher than it looks. Will Wade will be the next coach who is not a proven name.

They are one questionable hire from going back to club team. I think the really good coaches have already been taken.

Wouldn't be ironic if vcu hired Hewitt to replace Shaka? Isn't there some philosphical coherency.

vcu has had three good hires. They are due a bad hire. Villa7 is no more. They will be tempted to go to the Shaka tree. Will Wade could be very good, but he is risky. UNCC wanted him. He has done well at UTC in the two years he has been their HC.

Will Wade, Mike Rhoades or Jamion Christian. All three will probably do just fine at vcu.

If Shaka does go, I wouldn't want to be the guy trying to replace him.

You think Hewitt had a miserable time walking in Larranaga's shoes? Well, vcu fans don't just love Shaka -- they f*cking WORSHIP the ground he walks on.

What an unenviable job. Lose Graham and Weber. Then the first time you have a 2-game losing streak, the fan base is ready to send you packing. Heck, they had a Fire Shaka thread on their board in his first season.

It's easy to asssume the next guy would pick up where Shaka left off, like it happened when Capel and Grant left. But you know what happens when you assume...

They may do just fine - but for a fan base that is used to Shaka - and it really has been Shaka that got them to the next level - just fine will piss a lot of people off.

". It may be time for Shaka Smart to leave vcu: Nolan Richardson said toward the end of his tenure at Arkansas that, "You build a beast and the beast turns on you." That's probably something Smart can relate to. People in Richmond need to remember that vcu was just a CAA school three years ago and one that wasn't regularly expected to win games in the NCAA Tournament. The Rams' run to the 2011 Final Four changed the program's perception for the better, but it also increased the annual expectations for vcu. Rams fans shouldn't be bitter when they don't advance to the Sweet 16, they should be grateful for the fact that vcu has averaged 27 wins per season since Smart arrived in 2009."

A new coach, a couple of player defections and a non-NCAA season would be good for those delusional people down in Richmond.
