FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason head men’s basketball coach Paul Hewitt announced today Isaiah Jackson has signed a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

“Isaiah is a versatile perimeter player with outstanding size,” commented Hewitt. “We see him playing any of the three perimeter positions for us and we think he has a chance to make an impact for us next year offensively.”

I hope so. If he can play off the ball at the 2 or 3 and succeed next year off the bench the team looks a lot different.

We still need Moore to be able to hit a jumper and to figure out who is starting at the 3.

Not that it means much right now, but I'm pleased to see the comment about his offensive abilities. While the team obviously needs defense help, its good to see that Jackson could possibly be seen as an offensive threat.

I like this class a lot. I wish we got a PG, but we seem to not care about that position.

I agree, I think Lockett and Jackson will fill in more as guards than we expect, and Mayimba is a capable "3". In regards to a PG, I'm thinking that the staff thinks Jackson can help, which is why its not as high of a priority. In addition they have one more year of Corey at their disposal too.

A prediction: Marquise Moore will be our starting PG for the next 3 seasons, and by his Senior Night, we'll all be very happy that he was.

I know many people automatically dismiss him because his shot is so ugly, but he brings a lot of other good stuff to the table.

I really like the kid.

Lockett is not a guard.

Mayimba played on the perimeter in HS and AAU, while Lockett was primarily stationed in the high or low post.

Hewitt probably imagines that he can turn him into a SF in college, but it remains to be seen. He and Jackson look like the same guy -- lanky, long-armed 6-6 athletes -- but Jackson seems to have the better perimeter game.

Jackson somewhat reminds me of UCLA's Kyle Anderson. Point forward, not super fast, but can score from everywhere. However, Anderson had a real coach in college.

It would have been nice to include a picture of Jackson (video even better) instead of our Coach holding up his hand. Oh well, guess they only had a couple of months to prepare since he gave his verbal.

And the photo of Hewitt is from the 2012-2013 season, not this past one.

This is Mason we're talking about. I'm just glad they managed to spell the kid's name right.

Speaking of recruits, I ran into a high school basketball coach I know today, and I asked him about Porter. He went on and on about how good he is and went as far as to add, "Mason got an absolutely steal. That kid is the real deal."

Love hearing this. Porter is the type of kid that we've had so much success with ... with his combination of height and athleticism, he should've been much more actively recruited, but I'm reasonably sure a lot of schools gave up on him because he bloomed late and played all four years in public school.

If we don't sign Thompson, I figure Trey will play significant minutes as a freshman -- if only because he has good instincts as a shot-blocker and Copes is a fouling machine.

Did Frank Haith really leave mizzou for Tulsa?

That appears to be the rumor, GS. The only rationale I can think of is he wants to leave Missouri before the NCAA sanctions hit like when he was in Miami. If he does bolt, maybe we can try to lure J3 to Mason since we were one of the hats he placed on the table during his commitment announcement. haha
