That would be soooooo amazing if they scooped up Hewitt. Haith was squarely on the hot seat at Miami and had lost the fan support when Mizzou hired him inexplicably, can history repeat itself? Please?

Haith is awesome when it comes to leaving jobs just before he gets fired. We should set up a meeting so Hewitt can learn from the master and find himself a life boat.

Careful pushing a coach out the door based on a short term record issue. James Johnson was a step down from Greenberg, and we won't have Whit Babcock to go out and snag us Buzz Williams. Show him the door if he fails with a roster he put his own stamp on.

When Hewitt first came to Mason I think it was pretty obvious what his intentions were. In his first season Hewitt inherited a winning team built by Larranaga. He was probably hoping he could win lots of games under Mason, get attention from an ACC school and leave to become a big conference coach again.

Obviously that didn't happen. Dissapointing season records and no NCAA/NIT is the reason why Hewitt is not able to find himself a life boat (offers from other schools). If he did get an offer from another school without a doubt he would leave ASAP and get away from the George Mason life boat that he is responsible for sinking.

2014-2015 season will be the last season for Hewitt, keeping him until 2015-2016 would just produce the same results :tongueout:. Even if we have a winning record in 2014-2015, I would still want the new AD to replace Hewitt. Maybe we can grab Brad Stevens when he gets fired from the Celtics.

Turnarounds can happen. Two years ago, did anyone think Duke fans would also be buying football tickets? And they did it with a coach who underproduced for a few years. Let' s see what these new guys can do first.

I'm all for seeing what the new faces can do for the program as well and I am excited for it. However, (and I know the horse has been beaten) the thing that I think the fanbase is concerned with is the fact that as more "Hewitt guys" have shown up, the team has done worse. If you subtract the CBI wins, Hewitt is sub .500 the past two years. At this point its hard to say that things will magically turn around with so many new faces. Hewitt has not done anything to show hes a long term answer especially considering he was brought in to bring continuity and has failed to do so.

Seth was at VT for 9 years and made the NCAA tournament one time. That's not a short-term record issue. He had more than enough time to prove he couldn't get the job done.

Should we wait 9 years to prove that Hewitt is a crappy coach?

Again, no offense, but you're not very good at comparisons.

The footbal comparison probably wasn't the best example. But I understand what jmckend1 was trying to point out. The roster in the 2014-2015 season will be stamped with Hewitt's name on it. Corey Edwards and Vaugh Gray unfortunately are probably going to be in the cobweb shelves. So pretty much it will all be Hewitt's recruits. If the season record ends up similiar or worse than the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 season record, then it would be appropriate to show Hewitt the door.

The 2013-2014 was an adjustment for Mason. Most of the A10 teams were at thier prime and were loaded with experienced seniors on thier rosters. The A10 teams had seniors with A10 playing level experience. Meanwhile Mason came into the A10 with players who had CAA level experience but not A10. That is the only slack I will give for this season's shameful record.

2014-2015 will be open season. Most of the A10 teams will be rebuilding and depending on sophmores and juniors with a few freshmen players to win games. Pretty much same with Mason. Saint Louis will be set back, Dayton will be set back, GW without Maurice Creek, vcu losing two starters....... Everyone in the A10 will be close to even to one another. I won't give much slack for the 2014-2015 season if things go bad.

No. The point was that if you push bad out the door, you might get terrible to fill the vacuum. No offense, but you don't seem to get the point.

This was exactly what I was getting at. Please take a deep breath Jim.

I'll say it again, the best comparison is GW. They were terrible in Lonergan's first two years and people were ready to move on. He gets Creek to transfer in and they go from bottom of the conference to the 8/9 game in the NCAA tournament. Hewitt needs to find is Mo Creek.

What about Julian Royal? Julian Royal is a bigger and better version of Ryan Pearson with the outide shooting of Jonathan Arledge. Hewitt has already found his Mo Creek with Julian Royal right? Or is it not until someone has picked up Anali Okoloji's scholarship that Hewitt has found his Mo Creek?

Julian Royal is already better than Ryan Pearson? Hold your horses there, buddy. Lets see the kid play some damn games first. Pearson was a great player for us, if Royal comes anywhere close to that I'll be impressed and we'll be lucky to have him.

The "better the devil you know than the devil you don't" is a bad choice in athletics. Why would we hold on to bad just because we are scared the next guy will be worse? The new AD should have the confidence in being able to finding a winning coach I would think otherwise why hire one?

If Hewitt loses more than 12 games before the postseason he needs to be out of a job period.

You would think, right?
We don't know if the new AD will be any better either.

Seriously, sometimes I feel like half the people who post here were in a coma during the Larranaga years.

Newsflash: We don't have to suck at basketball, people. And as a fan base, we don't have to be satisfied with a coach who has proven over the better part of the last 15 years that he is nothing more than a slick recruiter.

Being afraid to fire a lousy coach out of fear that you might wind up with someone even worse is a loser's mentality.

There are plenty of quality coaches out there who would love to take $750K to rebuild a winning program at Mason. Now it's up to the new AD and Cabrera to find and hire him.

Hewitt is dead man walking.
