2014 Recruiting

So, if Hewitt finds someone he'd rather have, Vaughn will return regardless?

This is A) Virgil saying VG is returning to school or B) Hewitt told VG he'll be on the team next year.

Big difference.

Dont know anything, not saying Hewitt is looking to cut VG out or anything, just wondering.

Based on Virgil's following post, it appears the answer is "A":

He's remaining a Patriot... He's loyal to the university and is working out hard... The rest is on Hewitt to acknowledge that he needs him and stop pretending he doesn't

The first thing VG needs to do is change his number back to #12. Things started going down after he made the change to #1.

With Buzz Williams leaving Marquette for Va. Tech it could shake up the 2014 recruiting world a little. Marquette has two ESPN 100 recruits signed for 2014, maybe they think about heading elsewhere?

One of them is Ahmed Hill, a 6'5'' SG from Augusta, GA. Okay, Hewitt...time to flex those recruiting "muscles" and territorial reach you have in GA. Of course, only if the kid wants to leave Marquette.

I'm saying it now: There is less than zero percent chance that Ahmed Hill winds up at Mason ... although we do have plenty of playing time (and shots) to offer a big-time freshman SG.

He's probably gonna wind up in Blacksburg with Buzz.

The acc is the place to be. You will get paid. Look for wake forest to pay big money for shaka, shaver, howland, capel or someone else. Prob shaka bc his gimmick is crashing and he will want to cash in.. Meanwhile the OCM starts crying as he will be one of the lowest paid coaches in the acc.

History will repeat itself as OCM readies the smoke machine and Shaka prepares himself to be the next Anthony Grant.

sure....we can convince him to come to Mason rather than Kansas, Indiana or Ohio State...etc

Other teams do it, why not us? SMU landed the top rated PG in the country in 2013 and I think either the number 2 or 3 overall player in the class.

I know they have Larry Brown as their coach, but it's still SMU, which I think shows you that your coach can have a lot more to do with recruiting than the name on the front of the jersey.

I mean, let's be honest, the players Shaka Smart is getting are coming to play for Shaka Smart, not vcu.

It's really too bad Hewitt hasn't worked out here, because his name still has cachet and if he had been able to keep the momentum going from the 2011 season we'd probably see a different caliber recruit signing on the green and gold dotted line. As it is, I can't believe we managed to land Lockett and Mayimba. I'm surprised they just didn't run for the hills.

Thompson wasn't offered by any of those schools. Based on a decent but hardly awe-inspiring freshman season at VT, I don't expect any of them to be interested in taking him as a transfer.

That would be interesting because I'm about 99 percent sure Thompson didn't get an offer from Indiana out of HS. If he had, he certainly wouldn't have signed with Va. Tech.

Then again, it's certainly possible that Goodman is throwing stuff against a wall to see what sticks.

He's a 7-foot center, I'm sure all those schools will take a look at him. That doesn't mean they will offer, though.

A Providence blogger said the same thing about Marquis Moore: http://friarbasketball.com/2013/04/27/the-rapid-rise-of-marquise-moore/

So Providence apparently brought him in for a workout, and we also know UConn took a look at him as well. Did either offer him scholarships? Being that he committed to Mason, I doubt it.
