Honestly, I can't see Porter's decision significantly affecting Hewitt's status one way or the other -- except for the following fact:

Hewitt must know by now that he's gonna have to pull a rabbit out of his hat to win enough games next season to keep his job for year 5 and beyond. I highly doubt that a rail-thin 6-10 kid is going to play significant minutes for a coach in that situation; if he does, that likely means our roster has been ravaged by injury, suspension or some other foolishness.

So that may make it easier for Hewitt to sell Porter on the redshirt. If Porter realizes that he's not going to play much other than garbage minutes, hopefully he and his people will be smart enough to save that year of eligibility for the back end of his career.

But, at this point, you really don't know what could happen to impact the frontcourt. Did anyone expect Arledge to injure his back in a car accident during the summer or that Copes would be suspended again? And, how confident is Hewitt that Copes won't get into trouble again and risk other suspension or possible dismissal from the team?

Or does Hewitt feel that Porter is better than options currently on the roster?

If he does, he's wrong. Trey will get tossed around like a rag doll. I know everyone is down on Copes, but he's the best option we've got at the 5 for next season unless he goes and gets himself kicked off the team for some silly thing or another.

3 game suspension for Copes to start his Sophomore season, 6 game suspension to start his Junior campaign, will it be 9 or 12 to start the Senior season? Are we doubling or just increasing by 3?

Right, and if anything like that happens, then a redshirt would be impossible.

I'm not saying it's possible anyhow. We really won't have a backup at the 5, so the kid might have to play right away even if he's not ready.

Speaking of Arledge, I wonder if there couldn't be at least a very slightly open door for him to come back and plays for us next season. We all seem to be thinking that Okoloji and maybe others are gonna be moving on, so it's not like we're out of scholarships.

I ger that JA probably burned his bridge with Hewitt by opting to sit out this season when we really needed him -- but if his back is healthy, I'd expect him to give us more bang for our buck than a JUCO transfer.

I expected you to suggest that Jenkins would start at the "4" and he (and Marko or Royal) would back up Copes at the "5". I really don't see Arledge coming back under any circumstances.

I don't, either. It's just too bad -- we could use him.

Of those three only Jenkins has the tenacity to mix it up in the low post with other centers, which is fine by me if we have to ride Jenkins for 35 mpg next year

any word on Lockett? Apparently he came back into a game from injury and his team won a playoff game, just seeing if anyone knew more about it

Spot on. This guy is getting by in High School right now on height alone. He has potential, but he really needs to take a year to develop his body a little bit. OK a lot.

Potomac advances to the state final:

The Panthers (27-1) will play Henrico, which beat Wakefield earlier Saturday, this Friday at 2 p.m. at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. Potomac beat Henrico earlier this season 70-64 in overtime.

Even though the Panthers’ main scoring threats- Haynes and Trey Porter—were initially contained by Maury seniors Mike Basnight and Jaleel Ferguson, Potomac shot 47.8 percent (11 for 23) from the field in the first half.

Porter was not given many good looks. Haynes did score three baskets, but was unable to do the kind of damage he has done all season in the first half. Meanwhile, Felder scored eight points, including one three-pointer, and Xavier Laws and Keijon Honore made key shots from the wings.

The box score says Porter got 8 points.

Why is he considered a premiere PG?

I've never heard of the kid before today, so premiere might have been overstating it. He just caught my attention because Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports said, "Graham would be one of the best prospects available if he indeed hits the open market."
