I don't think Burns was ever a scholarship player. By the way, is he coaching anywhere? I know a lot of people on these boards said he would make a good coach one day.

Porter isn't a Fleming type.

I didn't think Porter was a Fleming type, haha. I think Mason is well past recruited those.

And I thought he wasn't a scholarship player, but thought that maybe by the end he turned into one. Was never sure. He isn't coaching but has a clinic of some sort in NYC that works with ballplayers.

I see Porter, Lockett and Mayimba as being high-motor guys like Jenkins, who can all use their athletic ability to create turnovers and ignite fastbreaks.

They might struggle early on to score in half-court sets since none of them are known for being perimeter shooters, but I think they will find creative ways to score like Jenkins does. Granted, he had a year to put on some weight, but a lot of his points are scored on sure heart and determination.

I'm going to watch Porter this evening and I'll give my thoughts tomorrow. Porter is most def. not a Fleming type of player. I expect Porter after a year or two to really help this team. IMO Porter's ceiling is substantially higher than Flemings was. I do hope that we can afford to red-shirt him next year however, I'd like him to have that 5th year over garbage minutes as a fairly raw freshman.

The kid is seriously strong, like launching Briante Weber into the scorers table strong.

I loved Ric Wilson's quote about him during that game, "when he makes a move to the basket bodies go flying"

To the comment about Porter potentially playing against small centers in HS, he also played AAU with Boo Williams last summer, and they play some of the best teams in the country.

At this point, I still think he should redshirt since we'll have Copes at the 5 for another year and we're getting Royal into the rotation. I think that will be a good rotation in the front court of Jalen-Marko-Erik-Julian. That really only leaves garbage minutes for Trey, especially if Anali sticks around. If Jalen is any indication of what Handy is doing for those young guys, Trey could easily put on 20 pounds of muscle during a redshirt year.

what is a Conference 15 game?

If I had to guess, the VHSL re-did their classification for the 2013-14 season. The term districts were used (Potomac, Woodbridge, Hylton, Gar-Field, as well as a few others were in the Cardinal District). Maybe conference is replacing the word district?

I will be there as well, as Hylton is my alma mater.

Yes, Burns was the walk-on, but I'm pretty sure he played more minutes than Konate ever did.

It was sarcasm.

The VHSL completely realigned the how the state does playoffs. There are no longer districts but conferences that are numbered. There are also 6 state champions in every sport now, in the past only football had 6 champions. Washingtonian Hylton is also my alma mater.

Porter got 15 points, 4 of 8 from the free throws and his points were off dunks for the most part.

He is not that muscular at all, and some of the Hylton players were able to box him out pretty easily being 3/4's his height (or less). He got a few boards here and there but wasn't being as aggressive as he could have been. Hylton was keying on him and making everyone else on Potomac make shots.

He is going to get a rude awkening in the college game once he figures out he can't stand around a lot. He wasn't moving as much without the ball and was playing within 5-10 feet of the basket for most of the night That could be what the coach is telling him to do, but I was wondering if he had any type of outside shot, back into a defender, etc.

He had 2 fouls for the game last night, played roughly 27 of the 32 minutes.

Porter is def. a kid with huge upside, he will be our next great dunker. That said, he's not ready for college ball and will surely benefit from a red shirt season next year. I did like the fact that he caught just about every ball that came his way, unlike some guys we have on the current roster. I can see him taking a developmental path similar to Mike Mo. Porter did take and make some 3's in warm ups, so he's got some ability to shoot the ball.

Porter could use a redshirt year probably but his length is greatly needed on the court. We are def missing Arledge's length this season. Hopefully in the off season he can bulk up and get more assertive.

Let's not put too much into this kid for next season. He had some good offers but no great winning program was coming hard . He could be great or he could be Deon Cooper. Redshirt is a must.

We don't need him to hit 3s or even be out on the perimeter at all. Bulk him up and stick him on the low block and play the high low with Marko, Royal and Jenkins who are all face-up 4s and can hit the FT and extended.

Just imagine being able to pull the opposing teams four out past the FT line and having a 6'10 guy waiting for the pass into the low block (sort of like UMass with Lelanne), easy money if Porter can finish.

This was just my observation, not an endorsement of his shot selection. Hylton played a zone, porter generally played in the high post. His length will be a weapon at some point in his college career. I like his athletic ability, he can really get up and down the court, caught a nasty alley over 2 defenders. He's already better than Deon Cooper!

Also looked like Porter already has better hands and feet than any of our current playing big men minus Jenkins

One thing that needs to be factored in with the decision to keep or can Hewitt is that when coaches get off to a bad start, the recruits stay away. I would imagine Hewitt would be hauling in 4 star recruits if he was actually winning. Since we are now a bottom-feeder program, Hewitt will not be able to bring in any highly prized recruits. Without talent, he simply cannot win. Coaching is not and never will be his strong point. Has anyone seen the 4 star players other A-10 teams are bringing in? Sure Richmond and Davidson can get by with 1 and 2 star guys but that is because they have good coaches who know how to teach fundamentals. We do not have that luxury.

Hylton would have been burned by the speed Potomac if they went man to man.

What was stupid was Hylton playing zone down four points with 4 minutes left.
