Where Are They Now?

I didn't see all that much havoc style defense from MSM. They just never stopped scoring and played smart defense. Very smart.

Wow - thanks. I guess the impressive lack of TOs was obscured bythe 12 point loss.

One of the media timeouts in the 2nd half, we had 3 turnovers for the game. I looked at my seat neighbor and said, look at the turnover count, and yet are still losing.

Teams like W&M and MSM and many others play the way college teams without NBA talent should play. They move the ball purposefully on offense, and they help each other on defense.

I agree 100%... they didn't do anything special but play together and smart... neither of which we have displayed all season and I stated in my very first post ever

Key quote...

“You saw a team really connected, and really doing whatever they could to win a championship,” said Christian, the Mountaineers’ second-year coach.

I'm happy for Whack. Given their record, I presume we'll get to see him on TV again in the First Four (Dayton), which may give give MSM a chance to win another game.

Word is that they probably shouldn't have even gotten to the final because of having 6 men on the floor close to the end of their game with Robert Morris.
I could not really see it but here is the article and video. Maybe it is deadspin just exaggerating.

Congrats to Rashad, man we could have used his defense this year (though he would have been gone if he stayed at Mason)

That's hilarious. If you pause the second video right before Whack hits the game-winner, you can clearly see six players on the court. Unreal that the refs and St. Francis both didn't notice.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so figured I'd throw this in here...

Where were they in 2011?
George Mason: 27-7 (16-2 CAA) Round of 32
Butler: 28-10 (13-5 Horizon) National Championship Game
Temple: 26-8 (14-2 A-10) Round of 32

Where are they now?
George Mason: 11-20 (4-12 A-10) Eliminated by Fordham in A-10 P.I.G
Butler: 14-17 (4-14 Big East) Eliminated by Seton Hall in Big East First Round
Temple: 9-22 (4-14 AAC) Eliminated by UCF in AAC First Round

At least we're not alone!

Anyone up for starting the Has-been Athletic Division? New conference, 3 teams.

Misery loves company. Those numbers seem to suggest that all three schools should've stayed in their previous conferences, but only time will tell.

Butler losing Brad Stevens to the NBA was huge. I think that's thrown their program off course for the time being, we'll see if/when they recover.

I agree. Coaching changes have significantly damaged both our program and Butler's. But it's not like we lost our coach to the Boston Celtics ... only one of the worst teams in the ACC.

I think we all knew it was going to be a significant adjustment moving up to a better league, but there's no excuse for finishing as poorly as we did. Losing to teams like St. Louis, UMass, vcu, GW, St. Joes and Dayton were frustrating but it didn't keep me up at night.

What drives me nuts is we absolutely should have fared better against LaSalle, St. Bonny, Rhode Island, Fordham and Duquense. Had we held our own against the bottom half of the league, we could have finished around .500 and avoided the play-in game. Instead, we became the team everybody wanted to play.

Temple has got Fran Dunphy. They'll be fine. I imagine Butler and especially GMU have some major work/changes to be made before they reach 2011 levels again. An awful hire really does devastate a program like Mason's for a while I'm afraid.
