I was thinking Elway, but it looks like Elway did not play baseball his senior year in 1982 when the Cardinals made the CWS and he also never went to any bowl, much less the Rose Bowl. The "play" was actually his last college game which eliminated Stanford from bowl eligibility that year. I was not assisted by google or wiki in any of this.
