What I Like About Jalen Jenkins

Another question. Would we have won at Princeton and South Florida if Jalen played double the minutes in those games?

In the first 16 games this season, Jalen had a total of just 4 assists. In the last 3 games, Jalen had a total of 7 assists.

13 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocked shots today against GW. Can we clone him? Or at least his abilities?

As usual he played with the most passion and emotion on the team. The only negative thing is he needs to understand he can't commit stupid fouls like he did on his 4th. He is the only player we can't afford to have get in foul trouble especially on a silly reach in. Other than that he is a complete stud and I just hope he can block out all the "offers" he is going to be hearing from bigger teams.

1 if not 2 of his fouls, were pretty questionable. The one "foul" he had was alot of ball.

One ray of hope is that if Hewitt gets let go, Jalen has already sat out a year. He might not be so eager to do that again and would (hopefully) like to continue playing at Mason under the new regime. Someone probably already mentioned this, but I don't enjoy reading the boards when the team is dogshit.

Jalen is miles ahead of Johnny and Copes on both sides of the floor. I'd like to see us run our 2-3 zone with Jalen anchoring it since he has the footspeed and smarts to protect the rim. We give up a ton of points in the paint when Copes anchors the 2-3.

Jalen was named A10 ROW for the 3rd consecutive week. In conference play this season, Jalen is averaging a near double-double (12.5 ppg & 9.8 rpg) - see
http://www.gomason.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=25200&ATCLID=209386923.

BTW, Jenkins also averages 1.8 blocks (ranked 6th in the league) and 1.8 steals (ranked 4th) in A-10 conference games.

Don't want to jinx him with this comparison, but those A-10 conference game averages compare favorably to George Evan's freshman year (13.4ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals) http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/player/george-mason/george-evans/2000-2001.

Another comparison--Will Thomas' JUNIOR season (13.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg).
How much upside is there with Jalen?

This has me excited! Give the young players as much experience as possible, even if we lose. Build for the future!

Flat out love this kid. High motor, good skills, very athletic (creating mismatches inside) and all the intangibles. Keep it up JJ.

Been saying that for a while. Sucks for the seniors to go out like this, but this season's fate has been sealed.

Give Moore, Gray and Holloway big minutes in the backcourt, play Copes til he fouls out (7 minutes), and pair Marko (when he gets healthy) with JJ up front.

Barring changes, those guys plus Royal are the immediate future of our program.

This doesn't have to be a wasted year if our young guys get acclimated to playing major minutes in the A-10 and hit the ground running next season.
