No. Most schools thought he'd have to go JUCO like his brother and backed off.

Fortunately for us, Troy worked his a** off in the classroom as a senior and was able to qualify.

I think it's more the fact that he comes from a nowhere in terms of basketball. He's from suburban Syracuse, which is a wasteland. They have the university, but Boeheim isn't recruiting the back yard, you know?

That's not it. He played AAU with Albany City Rocks and got plenty of exposure to D-I coaches. They knew what he could do.

His fellow players will look to him to keep the game loose during tense situations. Every teams needs a guy like this. TT-- go nuts. Feed that fire. This is how you get a freshman big going -- out in transition with a retreating defense. I bet that was a huge confidence boost for him.

Troy looked pretty good defensively vs. UMass. Playing good D got him in the flow of the game and he was thusly rewarded with a pretty fast-break feed and one-handed dunk!

Just goes to show, play good defense and the other elements of the game will come to you. Here's to many more one-handed dunks over the next three seasons, Troy!
