Again, "some people actually wanted to play at mason"...Paulsen recruited guys who THIS YEAR were All Conference in the A10, 2nd team all conference in the ACC, and 2nd team all American.

You have NO IDEA what we'd be like this year with those 3, but...probably f**king better than we were.

I get it, I really do, it's sexy to go with the young up and comer who is going to magically turn us into a recruiting powerhouse.

The problem is, it's not going to happen. At least not quickly. A program like Mason has to build it's success. I know everybody thinks the transfer portal will make overnight success easy, but not at a school like Mason, not until our administration treats it seriously.

I said it when we hired English, and I'll say it again now: We are a middle of the pack A10 program.

If we hire a young assistant coach, then great, I'll cheer.
If we hire a grizzled vet, then great, I'll cheer.

Just don't expect more than middle of the pack results until we act like a program and an athletic department that is more than a middle of the pack program.

Then they need to go back to the caa! If they aren’t even going to try to win.

There’s no point in anyone even showing up because they already know they aren’t trying. Recruits also know they aren’t even trying.

We won’t know want Miller or Koleck do under English because they left. We do know what they did under Paulsen though, they weren’t good! Other coaches made them better.

So if you want to say English can’t coach, fine! However it’s not a debate that Paulsen couldn’t!

Paulsen and Hewitt are long gone. English is most likely out the door (we can’t control that — unless one of you pricks is hiding $10 million under your mattress to toss at him). Control what you can control (your support for the team, financial and otherwise).

I'll be pushing 80 in 10 more years. I've been attending games since 1975. I want to see a coach who will stick around and do what he said he would do...build a program, not be a slick talker and bail. So yeah, for me it's personal. You sign a contract. Honor it.

I was listening to "spaces" the other night via GK. one of the points that Bryan made was that we have spent money on this. Your damn right we have the right to be pissed. It's not funny to piss away $1200-$1500 every year to see meh results.

However, he was (and still is) insanely hyped up so my expectations were that however short his stay might have been, we’d at least get something good out of it like a return to the NCAAs. I’m not pissed that he’s leaving, he was always going to leave, I’m pissed in how he’s leaving. Didn’t build anything, didn’t win anything, will likely nuke our roster while going out the door…we’re worse off by having had Kim as our coach.

I’ve said it multiple times in this thread, but I’m glad a lot of us are pissed off and showing our emotions. I hope the fan base and administration rallies around this moment to truly invest in making Mason basketball a better, more dynamic, and respected program.

Exactly. Slick talker who promised great things. What we got was a seven game win streak. Big deal. What are we left with? An empty roster.
Bring Tony in. He loves Mason. At this point I don't even care if he doesn't get us over the hump. Stay. Love the school. Build the fan base. Play scrappy. Give us something and someone we can embrace as "ours."

Jim Phelan - 49 years at Mt. Saint Mary's. Could have gone elsewhere multiple times but remained true to himself, the university, and his players.
Coach K - 42 years at Duke
Dean Smith - 36 years at Carolina
Jim Boeheim - 47 years at Syracuse

Just to name a few. We live in different times now, not better by any stretch of the imagination. Honor, loyalty, and commitment have been replaced by the chase for the all mighty dollar and "what's in it for me" mentality.

I expected a fair amount of action during the offseason, but was hoping it would be positive action. and not this. I agree with the sentiment of several others on the boards. Mason's basketball program is not likely to ever be a long-term, final destination for any top notch coach. We might as well call all of our coaches "Interim Head Coach." Depressing day.
