You all are acting like a bunch of middle school girls writing your names plus "KE" in a heart. Or worse, JMU fans every time they hired a new coach. I am not saying English isn't going to get it done, but let's wait until he actually does something before we declare him the savior of GEORGE Mason basketball. And, an Instagram video doesn't count as doing something.

We are a starving tribe wandering in the desert and we have stumbled upon a recently abandoned truck full of beer and beef jerky - don't kill the buzz just yet sir. ;)

The fact remains the execution of this process was more organized and thought out than we have seen in past transitions. It shows we are approaching a competent program. The fact English has started working the current players is promising.

And then I saw his face ... now I'm a believer!

Best name for a coaches show:

I’d love a coaches show, but I think it needs to be done right and well produced. They took a stab at it with Dave’s YouTube videos, but I don’t think it really landed with the fanbase based on the YouTube views. Maybe look at partnering with someone in the media space who has a built in audience already and try to expand from there? How does GW handle their coach show?

If you want a live show, it needs to be done at a restaurant, preferably during lunch or happy hour depending on practice times. Based on our historic scheduling, I'd say the best day is either Monday or Thursday. A live appearance gives Kim a chance to show his beautiful face in the community, sign autographs, take pictures, etc. Stream it live on social, and then take a recorded copy of the show and make it available on all platforms.

If it is done "in-studio" without an audience, then it's simple: Record it, and send out on social, GoMason, etc. This way you can easily build in commercial breaks, highlights, spirit graphics, etc.

In the end, it all comes down to money. Factor in sponsorship dollars with production costs, and whichever one makes the most cents, makes the most sense.

Any guesses regarding the possible retention of the assistant coaches?

Trivia question: Name the former Mason men's basketball coach who was an English teacher?

Prior to COVID, Richmond and vcu both did coach’s shows at local restaurants and they were aired live on the two competing sports radio stations down here. I doubt we’d get radio interest unless we bought the air time but having KE live at a restaurant near campus for an hour a week would be a great opportunity to give fans access in a more casual, less structured environment ... given his obvious people skills, I can’t see how that is anything but a home run for Mason.

Didn’t ODU do this in the Blaine Taylor era? I swear I remember a live appearance at a restaurant is what revealed the drinking problem.

Well, production quality is maybe part of it... but you, first, have to have a coach and program that interests people. A middle-to-bottom program with a boring coach isn't necessarily a recipe for success. No one cares/cared what Dave was thinking, so why spend time listening to him constantly talking about "getting better everyday," or whatever canned response he preferred. But another reason those views are low is because Mason's AD is/was crap at promoting or marketing it. To be honest, I didn't realize they were even trying to get a coaches show started with him. And it's people like me - alums who've drifted from the program - that they should have been targeting. So if they're only using channels current hardcore fans are paying attention to, that's not going to grow your numbers.

But anyway... all that aside... i like the idea of English having a weekly sit-down, or better yet, some kind of mic'd up or "around campus" segment that shows him interacting with players, students and fans. You're going to get a better sense of him and his personality that way vs. a staged set up with a AD employee asking canned questions.

Love the ideas being thrown around for a coaches show, I definitely encourage you guys to speak up and tell athletics folks that you want it.

KE seems like an ideal ambassador for the program — if Mason doesn’t have him out and about engaging with students and the community as much as is reasonable, they are committing PR/marketing malpractice.

I talked to my buddy who does sponsorships for Richmond this morning. They did Mooney's show at Glory Days during Happy Hour on Mondays. Even with the coaches shows I produce here at Tennessee, you have to pick a place that's already going to have a built in crowd, and hope that the shows drives some Mason fans to check it out, while building interest with the people who will already be there.

Anywhere other than Brion’s is overthinking things IMHO

Built in Mason crowd? So no where?
