When Kellie Harper got here to Tennessee, she did this video series where she would "pick up" a coach or a player in a golf cart, and interview them while driving around campus. Barnes has done something similar in the past with lesser known coaches/programs.Well, production quality is maybe part of it... but you, first, have to have a coach and program that interests people. A middle-to-bottom program with a boring coach isn't necessarily a recipe for success. No one cares/cared what Dave was thinking, so why spend time listening to him constantly talking about "getting better everyday," or whatever canned response he preferred. But another reason those views are low is because Mason's AD is/was crap at promoting or marketing it. To be honest, I didn't realize they were even trying to get a coaches show started with him. And it's people like me - alums who've drifted from the program - that they should have been targeting. So if they're only using channels current hardcore fans are paying attention to, that's not going to grow your numbers.
But anyway... all that aside... i like the idea of English having a weekly sit-down, or better yet, some kind of mic'd up or "around campus" segment that shows him interacting with players, students and fans. You're going to get a better sense of him and his personality that way vs. a staged set up with a AD employee asking canned questions.
Reading is tough.Built in Mason crowd? So no where?
Do it on Half Price burger nite at Brion's!I talked to my buddy who does sponsorships for Richmond this morning. They did Mooney's show at Glory Days during Happy Hour on Mondays. Even with the coaches shows I produce here at Tennessee, you have to pick a place that's already going to have a built in crowd, and hope that the shows drives some Mason fans to check it out, while building interest with the people who will already be there.

Mason Basketball posted that pic on their twitter account. Sadly I was not invited.Dude - where do you live?
Any guesses regarding the possible retention of the assistant coaches?

Great idea. All you have to do for a coaches show to start..... is do it in the Johnson Center and live streamed.....
No better place to get a pro Mason crowd, get students excited about putting their butts in the seats and have THIS coach in front of them.
If the program gets back to winning etc...then you can do special ones at restaurants etc.
Heck Im a former radio guy and I find the need for actual radio anymore for a school like Mason is ZERO if they manage it right.
My job is securing sponsors for a collegiate athletics program. It's either not easy, or I'm not that good at it.That WDVM channel 25 has been doing a pretty good job covering local HS/college sports to include Mason.
Wouldn't break the bank to put it on TV there and I'm sure they'd love it. If not, internet would suffice.
Key is getting sponsors. Really shouldn't be hard.
Shouldn't be...
That sounds like something that could get me in trouble with the Ms.I thought you just lurked around campus taking pictures. Apologies sir

If they want to lean into the "English Class" idea, it could be as simple as Coach doing a :60 second video each week where he explains an offensive or defensive concept on a whiteboard, and then have film of that concept being played out in a game.

I've read he can apparently still play ball at a really high level... so maybe he walks into the Field House posing as a student and inserts himself into a pick up game or some kind of intramural/fraternity league game and he starts slow before proceeding to school the hell out of everyone? or maybe or hustles some guys playing pick up and then when they realize who he is, they get courtside seats at the next game... or something like that. Basically the kind of stuff you'd NEVER see our past coaches doing. Play on his youth and relatability to get the student back into the arena and excited about the team again.
yes you can get to it off of Twitter and instagram as well right nowIs there a way to see the press conference if you don't have a Facebook account (and don't want one)?
